"The final version of the bill passed the House two days later in a 424-1 vote. The next day, the bill passed the Senate in an 89-3 vote. In August, President Bush signed the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA)."

Re: CPSIA Hearing *CANCELED*

Go into seach mode for CPSIA filter by Forum Posts you will see 2 pages of results where they are talking about this conerning all matters of childrens products, and that just here at ETSY.
The topic was overshowdowed in the general media by ignorance of how this would effect so many, because since arounfd the time it was passed we have had to deal with Stock Market crashing, Presidential election, the Housing Market taking another tumble, Big Business Bailouts, and so on that seemed to effect us more. The idea behind the legislation is good, they way they are requiring the implimention and testing is ridiculous part. Not taking into consideration who else other than the big companies and importers this touches See ESTY thread titled " THEY CALLED!!! "

Re: CPSIA Hearing *CANCELED*

I don't know why. I just know that Rick Woldenberg was scheduled to speak before the Committee and was told it was canceled.

Rick had previously spoken before the Committee- if you would like to see the points made by him as a school science kit supplier, he makes really outstanding points in a series of YouTube clips I put on my blog.

It's a shame that some of his comments actually garnered laughter.

Re: CPSIA Hearing *CANCELED*

Thanks for the heads up--let's hope they reschedule. In the mean time, start an email campaign with everyone you know and ask them to write their Congressperson and let them know that this thing needs to be re-worked or it will cripple America small businesses that produce goods for sale to the public.

See page 4 of this thread for a sample letter and then a link to another site which also has a sample letter:

Re: CPSIA Hearing *CANCELED*

Obama won't do anything about this. He has bigger fish to fry. Besides this stuff doesn't start in the White House, it starts w/Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid & their bands of merry idiots!
Happy Holidays,
Helene

Re: CPSIA Hearing *CANCELED*

I will have to totally redo my shop ,discontinue making cute ,childlike dolls, and work on my patterns to write instructions in preparation to simply sell my original patterns. Then I need to get them copy-right(God knows what that's going to cost me)and hope and pray they will sell .I cannot possibly spend money to replace all the fabric I have accumulated over the years and was going to use in my doll making,so I will probably start designining a totally different style of doll, solely and obviously geared toward collectors and/or home deco'r (which is really not the kind of dolls I like to make ,but still better than not making dolls at all)!
These are the options I personally feel I have, because if that poorly written, full of gaps law ,stands, there is no way I could even begin to put out the money for testing. Thanks, King George!!!:(

Re: CPSIA Hearing *CANCELED*

As a mom of four children, two of whom are under the age of 12, I'm wondering what this is going to do to the prices of clothing and toys!! Clearly they will skyrocket! How could they not? In a time when the economy is tanking-- I wonder who thought it was a good idea to intentionally bankrupt every last small business creating things for children... and the families that buy such things. *sigh* Oh yea-- the government. Makes sense now!
