I just got this e-mail from the Yarn Market Industry.

CPSIA Exempts Yarn

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has just exempted yarn from the rigorous lead testing and certification requirements required for children’s products under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). This is very good news indeed for the hand-knitting industry, which was worried about the implications widespread testing would have had on the manufacturer, all the way down the distribution chain.

For more on this ruling, go to www.apparelnews.net/news/manufacturing.

Read the October YMN for much more on this breaking story.

Re: CPSIA Exempts Yarn

I'm guessing that included fiber too? And the dye used to dye it??

I'm totally out of my depth here.

I used to attach buttons to my crochet baby items, but found a wonder crochet button pattern. So excited cause now all my items are safe!

Re: CPSIA Exempts Yarn

so I am reiterating because I want to clarify for myself:

1) I can sell hand knit items for children as long as there are no buttons, zippers, etc without a problem

2) I need to put a content label on every item.

Yes, and #3) You need to put a (CPSIA) tracking label on every item.
