CPSIA, Clinton, and Kyoto

I've been following this topic since the beginning and reading so I can stay on top of what changes are occurring. The whole time all I could think was that this was bound to happen. It was truly inevitable.

Some people have said, "They're taking our freedom from us! We can't choose anymore!" (Whether that be to allow your child to munch on a nutritionally fortified zipper or not.)

It's not that we've lost our freedom. It's that we have ALREADY lost our freedom. We lost it with the Clinton/Kyoto disaster!

Think back. Who was really hurt by Clinton's decision?

Point fingers where they should really be pointed.

The current administration can't take back a decade worth of mistakes by giving us tax breaks or stimulus checks. They can throw money at us til they're blue in the face. It's not going to make any difference. All the business is overseas now.

For those affected by this legal monstrosity, my heart bleeds for you.

Re: CPSIA, Clinton, and Kyoto

How do you think that they are related?

(BTW, Congress had more to do with Kyoto decisions than Clinton)

Re: CPSIA, Clinton, and Kyoto

I blame Jimmy Carter. He's a democrat, so they are to blame for everything. Just because.

Re: CPSIA, Clinton, and Kyoto

What about Reagan and Nafta?

Kyoto agreement actually brings us up to energy usage and pollution controls that have been in effect in Japan and the EU for decades.

In the 80s Japan gave a huge tax break to building management companies, and home owners who installed solar collectors and reduced their reliance on the Powerplants. This alone reduced their pollution levels by a HUGE amount, as well as energy costs for homes, businesses, apartment buildings etc.

Re: CPSIA, Clinton, and Kyoto

NAFTA was signed by Clinton, but it was GHW Bush who originally spearheaded the effort, I believe. (It may be a holdover from RR's tenure.) I'm not sure what the Kyoto Accord has to do with the CPSIA or our freedom; the US signed it, but it hasn't been ratified (we're the only country to do that.)

I think Congress (doesn't really matter who's in the majority), feels the need to justify their salaries by DOING something... anything... Whether needed or not. Good governance should not be solely about action after the fact or just for the sake of action.

Of course, in the case of the CPSIA, they just threw a blanket over several industries and treated them the same, because of a few incidents (equalling thousands of toys), rather than punish the actual facilities and companies.
