CPSIA-A Question!

I am confused as who would be affected by this? Would my shop? I have written my senator and congressman...and so far have done everything I could! I have heard reports as far as "only those items with lead would be affected" and now I am hearing otherwise. Could someone please clear this up for me! Many Thanks!

Re: CPSIA-A Question!

As the law is currently being interpreted, yes your items would be affected. But it's great that you're writing your reps and working to change. I feel really confident that some changes will be made if we don't give up.
Your shop is just lovely by the way!

Re: CPSIA-A Question!

Your shop is beautiful! But, yes, it seems that you will have to submit samples of your products for testing. I also initially thought this whole thing doesn't really apply to me because my stuff is non-toxic, but it's the issue of having to prove it's lead-free, through third party lab testing, that's the kicker. And it's all materials that have to be tested, including paint, textiles, ribbons, buttons, paper, wood, etc.

Re: CPSIA-A Question!

You have such lovely products. Unfortunately, yes, your items would fall under that new 'law' and you would need to send them to get tested. I have read that once you have an item tested, so long as you use the same materials, you only need it to be tested once. However, once you change suppliers or materials, the product needs to be submitted for testing again.

Re: CPSIA-A Question!

Yes, as they said, you would be affected. Many of us are planning to either close up shop or look at other things to sell. I hope people coming looking for kids stuff in January, because there are going to be a lot of stores trying to get rid of inventory (like me). :(

Re: CPSIA-A Question!

Anyone care to interpret this? From the FAQ section on the CPSC's site:

Does the CPSIA envision stuffed animals falling within the scope of the CPSIA’s lead limits or phthalate limits?

Most stuffed animals would be considered to be children’s products and presumably toys. A manufacturer would need to determine whether the design of the stuffed animals is such that it is subject to the lead paint limits, the lead content limits or the phthalate limits.
