CPSC Grants One Year Stay of Testing and Certification Requirements...

Looks like crafters get a 1 year reprieve on the CPSIA requirement. So that means we have one year to make sure crafter's and handmade are exempt from the new law.

Excerpt from the press release:

"The stay of enforcement provides some temporary, limited relief to the crafters, children’s garment manufacturers and toy makers who had been subject to the testing and certification required under the CPSIA. These businesses will not need to issue certificates based on testing of their products until additional decisions are issued by the Commission. However, all businesses, including, but not limited to, handmade toy and apparel makers, crafters and home-based small businesses, must still be sure that their products conform to all safety standards and similar requirements, including the lead and phthalates provisions of the CPSIA."

yeah but it sounds like they are saying, "ok we won't make you test but make sure you know for sure that your products don't have lead or phthalates in them..." so how do we know for sure without testing?

A by making sure the materials you are using are lead free. read labels when you buy. B if need be there are test guns you can rent/borrow/beg if you really want to be sure. C. unless you are using plastics and paint you should be ok, most sellers are sewers, knitters and the like and they should be fine

OH no kidding, for a while there they wanted to include photographs that hang on the wall what kid can reach up there and get it??????? Now they are going after books? no kids under 12 in a LIBRARY?????????

I think they've missed the whole point. Items being shipped in from China and similar countries that do not have strict measures of testing was the reason this started. They were so quick to at that I think they forgot who they REALLY need to look at!
