Baby Quilts.

I've been taking a break from selling for about a year and and opening my shop again. I was told there are new guidelines for selling children's products and am pretty confused. I sell quilts made from baby clothes that people send me. What exactly do I need to be doing as far as these guidelines go? Do I need to prove the fabric I'm using for the back of the quilt is safe for children? How do I do that? TIA

Re: Baby Quilts.

1. You should register as a small batch manufacturer at Saferproducts.gov. This will give you further exemptions from testing.

2. For the most part, fabric is exempt from testing.

3. The batting between the top and backing of the quilt is exempt from testing, as is the thread

4. You will need to have a sewn in label with tracking information on every quilt and you will need washing instructions.

Re: Baby Quilts.

I'm quite new here and saw this post and my questions are almost identical. I make a variety of baby blankets and just opened my shop. I only stumbled across the FTC and CPSIA regulations when I was looking for information on crib quilt sizes. I'm glad I found it as I obviously would like to work within federal regulations. From what I can find with all my stumbling through here and the other websites I've seen linked is what you, Beverly, have stated above. That I need to register as a small batch manufacturer and just add labels to my blankets. Is this correct? Do I need to do both FTC and CPSIA labels for blankets? I know a lot of the information overlaps and from what I found, it can be one label. I think the FTC is the fiber content and care instructions, correct? Beverly, can you send me a picture of the label you use? I greatly appreciate any help people can provide.

Re: Baby Quilts.

There are no specific CPSIA regulation regarding crocheted hats and headbands, except that they must have a tracking label. If you use wool or wool blend yarn then you will have to also attach a FTC wool tag. Wool is always an exemption to FTC exemptions.

Re: Baby Quilts.

Sarah, I just took a look at your store. sorry i didn't do that before answering. I see you have a crocheted blanket. That will need FTC labeling as well as a CPSIA tracking label. It falls under FTC bedding

Also, here's a copy of Nordstom's "tie" rules. Your hats to be safe should be following these guidelines.

And for the USA, Canada, and the Eu, comparison charts with definitions
