And those are old articles, the first is dated early 2007 (this new law was first introduced in Nov. 2007) and the 2nd article was last updated in 2004. We should have seen this one coming!

No FREAKING way!

This is utterly, utterly gone too far. Now Elmer's Glue is in danger of going bankrupt? Who uses more glue than children?

This is farking ridiculous.

I work the art in action program at my daughter's school. It will have an effect. This has really gone too far.

We can all thank the greedy companies for this!

What I find so confusing is my Liquitex paint is labeled nontoxic yet it is on the list.

Re: Arts and Craft Materials that may not be purchased for use in grades k-6.

You know what needs to happen? EVERYBODY ignore this law. Every school in America should order what they usually do. Parents should keep buying the glue. (GLUE, for Chrissakes) You small businesses for children should keep making and selling your stuff.

How the hell are they going to enforce this crap with 380 million people practicing what amounts to civil disobedience? Close every single school? Fine every single individual? When none of them pay, then what? Jail for the whole damn country?

Another thing that may be in danger is Beads of Courage. It's an organization that provides beads to children in hospitals all over for their "bead journeys"; when a child is suffering a chronic or life-threatening illness they are given the opportunity to make a bead string, with one bead for every illness-related event in the child's life -- a bead for chemo, a bead for blood transfusion, a bead for hair loss, a bead for a spinal tap, etc. Glass workers make beads specifically for this program. Now the children might not even have their bead journeys anymore??

This whole thing is a bad dream.

Not sure why everyone is harping on the Elmer's glue that is listed since the types on that list should not be used by children.

I don't see Elmer's school glue on the list, just craft glue and wood glue.

Re: Arts and Craft Materials that may not be purchased for use in grades k-6.

Sorry, my bad; I saw practically a whole page of Elmer's Glue products and didn't realize that most of it was not for school use.

I overreacted. :)

I've just seen so much that IS ridiculous about this law that I'm frustrated. I'm in Canada and I don't make children's goods but some of my favourite American sellers will be affected by this and it ticks me off.

And what I said about Beads of Courage is still accurate, as far as I know.

'Kay, I'll go chill out now. Sorry for the misplaced rant. :)

I'm happy with what I didn't find, my DeltaCeramcoat paints and textile medium look to be safe. To be honest it does make me feel better to know this.

I don't see anything wrong with those lists. Those are thinks I really wouldn't want my children using anyway...it is just nice that is all in one place and is taken into consideration.

Those lists are old lists, they have nothing to do with this new law, check the dates please, those have been banned for a few years now!

Re: Arts and Craft Materials that may not be purchased for use in grades k-6.

All products that may be used in crafts - as most crafts could be "appealing" to children under 12 - must be tested under CPSIA, so concern over Elmers School glue, while it has nothing to do with these listed articles, is warranted as it must be tested - despite the current Non-Toxic label that it now carries. Since Elmers and similar products are currently tested to get that Non-Toxic status chances are that they will just require a change in labeling to bring them in compliance with CPSIA. But that means all new packaging - yet another unnecessary expense.

bipsy says:

>>>

what I saw was a bunch of glues that have major precautions on the backs of them, carpentry and professional glues or aerosol sprays which def shouldnt be used by little kids! not regular white glue or glue sticks...

Re: Arts and Craft Materials that may not be purchased for use in grades k-6.

The list has everything to do with my business as I paint children’s clothing and all my supplies will need to pass testing. I’ve been know in past years to use Liquitex paints. I have two bottle in front of me one is about 4 years old and one from last fall both have the same nontoxic label on them but are on the banned list. I’m guessing it won’t pass the CPSAI testing and I sure don’t want to use it in the future till I know. Someone had asked in another thread if anyone had any info on craft paint.

Re: Arts and Craft Materials that may not be purchased for use in grades k-6.

I'm for keeping our kids safe and wouldn't want my grandkids useing any stuff on the list. There are many safe craft items to use. I have priceless kid art hanging up all over my studio to prove it. I was just happy to see the paint and textile medium I use was not on the list.I feel better about my work passing testing.

The banned products will change under the new requirements, and once again in August of 2009 as the rules get tougher so keep checking on the products you use.
