I will be staying open now that I have found help with understanding the labelling requirements (thanks Buggalove!). I'll also be asking my etsy label maker if they can make some custom labels up for me.
I will make my own labels! I already ordered the materials and will get going here soon. If you don't want to pay 30-40 cents per labels here is my tip for you:
1.Have a rubber stamp made! 2.Order some cotton twill tape! 3.Stamp the tape (with non-toxic ink) and cut it into sections! 4. Sew it into your items!
I contacted a number of etsy-label makers. Nobody even responded to my questions. Seems like they are all too busy making labels for others. So I thought I better do it myself...
Any seller making kids items should from time to time go to "CPSC" on the internet (their home page) and go to the bottom of the page and read the latest input on CPSIA. Also on this site, you will see the latest recalls. Quite simple to do. But it involves your business.
As I understand this, we don't have to go back and label things we made before August 14th? Is this true?
The labeling doesn't seem that hard so I'm going to do it. Though my tiny dolls will have to be put in a package with the label information. Attaching a label to them would be impractical because of their size. Hopefully this will be okay!
I have small wood toys, I don't think I can fit all of the required info on the bottom:
name, date of completition, and city, state, country- I think I will have to do that on my packaging, I am going to have stamp made and put on my cloth bags that go with each item.
so for now I am staying in till we hear about the testing in Feb.
Tip- I use VersaCraft inks designed for all my wood and fabric- it is AP certified and heat set perm- pricey but worth it.
I will be staying open. I am glad that the requirement is not as strict now but adding the date is still going to be hard for me as I get my labels made by someone else. I am sewing up orders most days of the week so I am at a loss about how to add that to a completed tag. Sigh.
I have tons of fabric and fleece. I have purchased 95% of it from Joann Fabrics, I dont have the manufacturer information, where it was made, etc., so what would I put on my labels, is it is ok to just list, 100% cotton, etc? If others like me don't have this information, what are you going to put on your labels? Thanks
I don't know about where for all my fabric, so I'm going to put 100% cotton, from USA and Imported...or something to that sort. And in the future...I'll mark each fabric whether it's imported or not. But, I have so much, and have collected it for years! Or I may just start from scratch on children's fabric. That's an excuse to buy more fabric :)
SewnInspirations says: I will stay open. I was thinking I could print labels on card stock and just tie the pillow up with rafia. I already do this but not with these labeling reqirements. Hope that's o.k. -------------------------------------------------------
Does anyone know if that is OK, or does it have to be a permanent label?
I'm going to start making different items, I dont want to go through all the hassle of labeling, I'm so mad about the whole thing! I guess I'm giving up, but I'll continue to make my crayon roll ups for friends, etc. :) I'm excited to try something new anyway. I'm glad to see people are staying open though! Thats great.
