If this thing actually takes hold and it becomes a FELONY to sell untested items that could be considered toys (even if that's not my intention), I will simply keep my shop open and shift my focus.

Pet/shelter animal related notecards and illustration prints will become my focus. I'll get back to illustrating, which I love. I might also have time again to focus on my writing.

Like all of you guys, it's in my nature to create. Life without art would be miserable indeed.

How about the rest of you? Will you stay open and change your focus? What will you sell instead of your current stuff?

Re: Are you changing your craft due to CPSIA?

Re: Are you changing your craft due to CPSIA?

I am already thinking about converting my kids' stretchy necklaces (a big seller for me!) into wine glass charms. I'm working on a farm animal theme. But in the meantime I'm hoping to sell as many as I can before the law goes into effect!

Or, what if I said in my description "for the kid at heart," here are some fun stretchy necklaces with turtles and penguins on them.

Re: Are you changing your craft due to CPSIA?

Most of my sales are those shoes. My other things don't sell that well. I am just gonna have to make adult shoes. I have the pattern for it just never made them and listed in my shop yet.

Re: Are you changing your craft due to CPSIA?

I'm just ditching my children's bookplates from my line. That's the only item I have for children. But I hate to destroy the printing block I made for it, so I guess I will hang on to it and think about what could have been. :-(

Re: Are you changing your craft due to CPSIA?

I'll have to stick to jackets for the over 12 crowd. I don't know if I'd have to stop making the American Girl doll jackets. Probably, or maybe I could just put in my listing that they are meant for children ages 12 and up? I've already started branching out with my bookmarks, coff cuffs and dog jackets.

Re: Are you changing your craft due to CPSIA?

I actually just made this account last night, as I've been working on creating plushies that I plan to sell here. However, after reading about this CPSIA I may have to change my mind. I can't really change the product as plushies are all I am interested, (and am capable) of creating.

I am Canadian, and I suppose I will only be able to sell to other Canadians, (but it seems the US is the largest market here). Because of this, I may have to look for a Canadian-only venue if I want to get any traffic, which is something that I am greatly disappointing about.

Re: Are you changing your craft due to CPSIA?

I dont sell Children's items really. I sell bookplates with kids names on them, really meant for the parent to use though, on their child's books, not for the child to use.
I'm not really sure what I should do about that. They're rubber stamps for goodness sakes.
