If this thing actually takes hold and it becomes a FELONY to sell untested items that could be considered toys (even if that's not my intention), I will simply keep my shop open and shift my focus.

Pet/shelter animal related notecards and illustration prints will become my focus. I'll get back to illustrating, which I love. I might also have time again to focus on my writing.

Like all of you guys, it's in my nature to create. Life without art would be miserable indeed.

How about the rest of you? Will you stay open and change your focus? What will you sell instead of your current stuff?

Re: Are you changing your craft due to CPSIA?

I will continue doing what I *was* doing before I opened up my online shops-sell to my friends and by word of mouth!!
As far as my shops, I will move into a different direction, but it's all top secret. LOL

I hope the law will change and I'll do what I can for my voice to be heard.

Re: Are you changing your craft due to CPSIA?

I do believe there is an inclusion about 'stock', i.e. things you have already made and therefor have not tested. Fun Holiday reading no doubt. And just when I was getting some wholesale orders for January!
I too have loads of already purchased fabric. Children's clothing is my sole focus, although, I too believe that this legislation will be changed for the better (and benefit us small folk)

Re: Are you changing your craft due to CPSIA?

As I said in another thread, I wanted to take my art dolls and embroideries in more of an erotic direction anyway. Even humorous erotic dolls would probably not be something Auntie would pick up for a 7 yr old niece.

I'm thinking if my hair clips are "appealing" to children. I don't think so, but then again, who knows.

Re: Are you changing your craft due to CPSIA?

Treehouse, stuff in stock HAD been addressed: It'll be considered "hazardous" without certification, the way the law is currently written - NO grandfather clause. :-(

If the law is modified, I'd like to keep dyeing stuff for kids, but if not, it just won't be practical for me. As it is, the idea of affixing a unique SKU tag on each item and keeping track of it all is daunting enough. :P

Fortunately, adults like tie-dye too. And depending on interpretation, I *may* be able to continue selling in-state, more because commerce laws are different interstate than intrastate, but there's lots of talk in both directions on that topic too.

For clothing, it seems that the date for that to fall under the Act won't be till August, so I may have some time to liquidate both my dyed inventory and the kids' stuff I haven't yet dyed; otherwise, I'll have probably 2 or 3 BIG trash bags full of baby and kids' stuff that will be considered "hazardous." :-(

Re: Are you changing your craft due to CPSIA?

Most of my customers sell children clothing!
If they can't sell, they won't need my designs anymore:(
I've invested lots of money on clip arts for children. I love making them but if they don't sell I will have to change my focus.

This is very bad news just before Christmas!

I'm very uhhappy!:( Like so many of us!

Re: Are you changing your craft due to CPSIA?

For now I'll keep working on writing and calling anyone who may be able to help regulate the law. I really love doing my baby clothes.

Been thinking of other ways to be able to do what I enjoy and still be able to have fun and be creative.

My shop will have to close due to the name. Already checked with Etsy to see if they would consider assisting any shops who are effected by the CPSIA regs and have a shop dedicated to children under 12, by allowing them to change the name of the shop, they responded "No." CuddlyCozy really makes people think of a baby. My poor Baby Panda avatar. Love him!

Since it will take time to re-setup and get going on new inventory, I'll be gone a few months at least. Just opened this shop in August and getting to feel at home :(

Cuddlycozy, you can keep your username the same but just change your shop name on your banner. Lots of people have shop names different from their username. Just a thought! That way you won't lose your feedback and sales.

I'll just limit myself to patterns and supplies, since supplies don't seem to be affected (yet).

Re: Are you changing your craft due to CPSIA?

sure, cuddlycozy...your username and shop name don't have to match. Mine don't. :)

You can take it a step further and buy the domain name to match your business name and have it forwarded to your shop.

That's what I did. I don't use my etsy address. I use www.PrincessNimbleThimble.com It goes right to my shop. That's what's on my biz cards and everything.

Re: Are you changing your craft due to CPSIA?

I'll have to change the focus of my shop for sure. Which stinks. I just started selling bows. I'll probably be rogue and sell to friends still. Odds are pretty good that if your little one starts chewing on a bow, you're going to take it out of her mouth.

I'm considering marketing my little purses to teens & not 12 & unders so I can still make them.

I do think as the time draws near, we should be checking the expiration dates of our items. There is no point in continuing to pay to relist when they won't be there.

Hopefully, there will be some good news by February. We are all sure trying!
