Are invitations considered a part of these new testing regulations?

I am currently getting ready to start selling handmade inviations. The invites are made of felt, buttons, rickrack, textured paper, and whatever else might look best. I mainly do birthday invitations. There is no way I could afford testing. Any help would be greatly ppreciated.

Are they for children's birthday invitations? If they are then "you betcha" they fall under the CPSIA.

FayeMaloneDesigns is right. They very easily could fall under the CPSIA regulations. Some inks and dyes have lead content. If at all possible, I'd avoid children's invitations until you can figure out if any of your materials may have lead content. You *may* be able to check all the labels of your materials and if lead is not listed, you *may* be able to get by with that for the time being. For my Kiddie Kuffs (in my other store) I've saved all the labels and have written to the various yarn companies to get something in writing from them saying they comply with the new CPSIA laws. The one-year 'stay of execution' protects me somewhat for now. I can show I'm actively trying to comply.

Well I will be safe for now as I do not make children's cards, but thanks for the heads up as I hadn't even thought of that new law covering birthday cards or others for children. Guess I had better go read all ingredients for the inks I use on those cards, hadn't I?

The way the law is being interpreted (so far) by CPSC invitations would NOT be included under the law. They are intended for adult use (adults to send to adults to invite a child to a party) - and there has been no mention about greeting cards in any "official" discussion about CPSIA.

past perfect

I wouldn't want to stake my life on invitations are intended for adults to send to adults to invite a child to a party. Are you addressing them to the adult? No, you address them to the child, and the birthday child is inviting them to a child's party. As to the "ink" lead in ink has been outlawed since 1978, if course that does't mean much under the CPSIA.
