Anyone in the mood to send some more letters?

I started a thread over the weekend entitled "How are you doing?". Personally, I am having a hard time getting back into the swing of things even with the Stay. Just can't seem to focus on my sewing. I feel like I have been robbed of my creativeness. Ideas come but the focus is not there. In my mind I am rolling the idea around and wondering if this is legal, if that is dangerous, etc.

In reading the replies I have gotten to my thread, it makes me sad, and it makes me very angry. We haven't done anything wrong and yet this law is stealing not only our ability to sell, our income, but most importantly, our creativity. IT IS WRONG!!!! The law may be good in protecting kids from lead and other dangerous substances but it is being unjustly carried out. It is intimidating to us in that there are so many threats. They are instilling fear and doubt in all of us. They make us think we will have to test and we know we can't afford it. They are laying down the amounts of fines that are huge and that scares us. We wouldn't be selling handmade if we had a lot of money.

Well, I don't know about you but I still own plenty of paper. I still have my computer. I can still pour my feelings out onto that paper. It is time to start mailing these letters to many, many people. Not just the Congress. Or, better still, sending them to the Letters to the Editor of newspapers and magazines all over the country. Sending them to the "producers" of TV and radio programs, not just the faces that report. And I do think we need to send some to the White House. Oh, I know we have been sending letters but we need more and now while we are in the Stay. I feel it is the job of the CPSC to recall bad products. But it shouldn't be their job to decide that we can't sell anything unless we jump through these ridiculous hoops.

The economy is so bad, times are so tough, businesses and banks are asking for and getting bailouts and handouts. All we are asking for is the right to be able to operate our small handmade businesses.

Anyone with me?

Bobbin, I'm with you on this one.

Write Obama, I thought I'd hurl yesterday with him going on about how much he was doing to save small business. Giving Billions to the Small Business Association for loans, etc. We are so small, he doesn't think we exsist! I don't want a loan, I don't want anything from the Gov. I just want to run my itty bitty one woman small business and continue to make safe, without lead, phthalate free garments for children.

This law is one of the dumbest, needless laws, causing waste of time, talent, energy, producing fear, and only putting money into the pockets of the testing companies. What a scam, I've heard some on these forums talking about testing cotton fabric for phthlates, and the quotes they have received. Cotton fabric doesn't need, nor does it contain Plastic!, therefore if you are paying for phthlate testing you are being ripped off. Is this how we are creating new jobs? By creating new testing labs, to rip us off?

The more time you spend thinking about this law, the dumber it really is. It will hurt people!!! Not just kids. It will take an emotional toll, a monetary toll, at the hands of the CPSDC.

Let's get busy. Let's start with the White House. They have turned the pool and fountain in front of the White House green for St. Patrick's Day. Let's give them a Spring Rain of Letters!!!! I know President Obama is swamped with difficult stuff. But he has a staff. They all need to be aware of our predicament.
