Anyone Used Snap Source?

So I recently wrote snapsource.com about getting a GCC for their snaps if I placed a large order, since they claim to be CPSIA compliant on their website.

We went round and round about CPSIA component testing (basically them telling me I was full of it), however we got it all straightened out. To their credit I really think they were trying to be helpful and did not know about the new ruling that is up for discussion. I appreciate the fact they were trying to help me too. (I swear this story is leading somewhere) Anyway they finally said if component testing was allowed I would be set with them.

However, I sent them one final email saying something to the order of "Great! So back to the original question; if I place a larger order how can I get a GCC?"

Now I have never heard back from them... Did my email just get lost in the shuffle? Has anyone else gotten a GCC from them? I see that a lot of people recommend them... I don't want to be a pest, and I already placed a small order to check out quality and let them know I was serious... Should I email again?

Re: Anyone Used Snap Source?

I had ordered from them twice and then emailed them requesting more information on their compliance. It took about a week to get a response with the compliance letter from the owner.

Okay, I'll just hold tight then. Good to know they have the GCC. I was just getting a little afraid they didn't really do the testing.

Re: Anyone Used Snap Source?

If you feel so inclined feel free to email it to me at brianna@lookingfortrees.com I am curious to see what type of information they provide. Obviously it won't work for my order because of lot numbers etc... But I would be interested to see if they have the required info already formatted.

I got the certificate through email, but you have to actually place your order first and pay before they send you the certificate. I think that is how it works. Good Luck!

Well I would carefully look at that certificate folks. I have confirmation that they do NOT 3rd party test. They are going on the factory test, but do not currently use CPSIA approved labs.

They are unclear if they are going to start using cpsia approved labs in the future but right now that GCC they gave you doesn't have the info required. This was coming from the company itself.

Re: Anyone Used Snap Source?

I ordered from them AFTER contacting them about providing a GCC. I was led to believe that they would provide it with my order. I placed the order and noted that I needed the GCC. Nothing came with it except for a statement on the invoice. I have emailed them telling them that I need it or I will need to return my order.

Then I went to: http://thesnapstore.com/catalog/
The home page has the following statement:
"CPSIA COMPLIANCE: Our in stock polyacetal resin snaps and metal snaps (excluding pearl snaps) comply to CPSIA lead and phthalates regulations. Contact us for addtional information. (Pearl snaps are not tested for lead or phthalates due to their very small volume being used on children's products.)"

I have sent them an email asking if they will provide a GCC with my order. Since it's Saturday, I don't expect to hear back until next week. I'll post again when I hear.
I noticed that Kam Snaps has a clickable link to their GCC....expired 8/31/2009....

Re: Anyone Used Snap Source?

Response from snap source:

All we have is a letter stating the products are compliant. As far a a third-party, this is your responsibility. Our testing is a first party testing lab. All our customer and their requesters use our letter as validation. All products must go through third party testing once our product is attached to garments. We have 100's of letters to supply and we are backed up doing this. Your request is on the list as stated on the phone. We provided you with the Sales Receipt with the compliance information. The letter comes separately.

That's so frustrating! The companies with the resources to test aren't suppossed to, but the little guy on the end has to.

Re: Anyone Used Snap Source?

I emailed them two or three weeks ago asking for a GCC and they haven't gotten back to me yet. Thanks for posting this info. I was going to make a post myself. BTW, do you know of anywhere to get compliant zippers?

Re: Anyone Used Snap Source?

I remember reading that YKK had compliant zippers. There's a seller on etsy http://www.etsy.com/shop/zipit?ref=top_trail you could check with them.

Re: Anyone Used Snap Source?

I have been back and forth with thesnapstore.com for a couple of months. They say they are CPSIA compliant on their homepage and to email for GCC info. So I did, they sent me info minus the lab and address of that lab. So I emailed them a few times asking for the lab details. They finally wrote back yesterday saying that info was for the company who paid for the testing and not available to release. If I were to have them tested myself does anyone know if I need to have each individual color tested? That would be nuts. Hope not.

Re: Anyone Used Snap Source?

That is a weird response. Are you purchasing wholesale? If so I think that if they claim to be CPSIA compliant that they are required to provide this info to you.

Re: Anyone Used Snap Source?

I am not purchasing wholesale. But I did ask that if I started to purchase wholesale would they provide me with the info but they ignored me. I would think that they would have at least said, "we only provide this to our wholesale customers". But their response did not suggest that.
