Any OOAK Producers Have Ideas on Dealing with CPSIA?

80% of my clothing is made from vintage tablecloth fabric, with a little new fabric mixed in. Therefore, all my items are OOAK. Has any other OOAK producers come up with ideas in getting a GCC inexpensively?

Awww, hon, we are just so sorry about this...we are going to pull all our kids' stuff and store it away in hopes that revisions are made. We just love you and your creations!

I don't know if on tablecloths if you are using ones with labels (simtex, startex) etc. could you test one tablecloth and use it for all with those labels? Especially the print ones? Afterall they are presumably the same just a different print.

I was thinking of that, my mom and I actually have a bricks and mortar shop with vintage and then some beautiful handmade goodies, like Poppylarity's. I guess we'll have to start marketing to the baby reborn groups.

Re: Any OOAK Producers Have Ideas on Dealing with CPSIA?

I was thinking I could fall under the second-hand store category and not need testing. My stuff is made from already used fabric....(don't take me serious on what I just said :-))

Thanks for the love, trendybindi.

Doll clothes will be affected too, unless they are intended for collector's dolls...

I haven't read everything said but I was thinking what if we just take out the toy tags and say we are one of a kind art. They can't regulate art, can they?

Re: Any OOAK Producers Have Ideas on Dealing with CPSIA?

I hate to burst any bubbles, but I don't think any of these suggestions will work. I also make lots of stuff from second hand fabrics and stuff I pick up at garage sales and thrift stores. I have boxes and boxes (and boxes) of fabrics I have had for many years. The way the law stands now, I can't lawfully use any of it to make anything for a child and sell it without testing the finished product. My feeling is that the only answer to our dilemna is to get this law repealed and start from scratch. Write, call, e-mail - we have to keep up the pressure until someone who can stop this finally comes to their senses.

Re: Any OOAK Producers Have Ideas on Dealing with CPSIA?

My doll & bear clothes are all made to order, so that makes each item OOAK so I'm clueless what if anything I can do.

I can't risk my family's security by getting fined over my doll clothes - so I'm shutting down pending changes in the law. Which sucks :(

Re: Any OOAK Producers Have Ideas on Dealing with CPSIA?

You can look in my profile for how I am staying open until August.

I'm working my butt off to get this rewritten so that OOAK is exempt, "inherently free of lead/phthalates" is exempt, businesses that are small enough they have to pay retail for their materials (as most of us here do) are exempt because the materials have already been tested to be on store shelves...I think changing the law is the only way to go or we're all sunk.

Re: Any OOAK Producers Have Ideas on Dealing with CPSIA?

Poppy, I am in the process now of separating all my fabric and supplies (including thread and ribbon) from manufacturers that have provided me with compliance certificates and those that have not. I am trying to figure out other things to make with those fabrics for children over 12 and adults, maybe you could do the same. What about pillows, totes, aprons, christmas stockings, sachets, hot pads, tablerunners ets. out of your vintage tablecloths and fabrics? Just some thoughts.

Re: Any OOAK Producers Have Ideas on Dealing with CPSIA?

P.S. that will only keep me going until aug., then I will have to switch totally over to adult items if the law is not ammended, since I will not be able to afford to test myself.
