Any Button Recommendations?

Hey guys, any of you know of any plastic buttons that have been tested and approved for children? Mainly I'm looking for just your run of the mill two-holes-in-the-middle buttons, nothin' fancy, but available in a variety of colors (black, red, blue, etc.). Dyed wood would be okay too. It's not like my heart is set on plastic. I just want buttons that are approved so that I can use buttons without doing the testing myself. Anyone know?

Also toying with the idea of using wood buttons and covering them with fabric--anyone tried this?

I was gonna suggest using Unfinished wood buttons that is what I use.

Re: Any Button Recommendations?

I got mine here, they use to be on etsy, but something about not having the etsy person a member of their team anymore so now they aren't on etsy But that's how I found them they had posted in a button post from sometime ago and said their buttons are compliant. I just made my purchase a little bit ago so I still haven't received them to know for sure that they will come with all the information I need, but I told them I needed any cpsia compliant information when I check out.

Re: Any Button Recommendations?

Use mother of pearl buttons, Also Lamode has said that if you contact them with the style number they can send you testing results. Unfinished wood buttons won't wash well.

I wondered on the washability, I've seen u can finish them with beeswax to still be compliant, does anyone know if this makes them wash well or how to finish them yourself.

Oh and I did get my buttons in the mail today, I love them! Now if only they would get some more color options or different syles or just a little more variety. And it came with the compliance information!

Re: Any Button Recommendations?

So I did some research on coating your own wood buttons, and from what I read reappling the coating is recomended so maybe not such a good idea for wood buttons...

Re: Any Button Recommendations?

MoesCrochet, so with the compliance letter from the supplier of these buttons, you don't need to do anything else?

Re: Any Button Recommendations?

Joann's has them by me. They are the most popularly carried button brand near me but none of their buttons say Blumenthal Lansing as the brand name. Try looking for LaMode and Favorite Findings as they are both made by Blumenthal Lansing. You could google it to find their buttons online... A thought...

Re: Any Button Recommendations?

In a panic I wrote Blumenthal Lansing last Sunday to see if they could send me something stating that they are CPSIA compliant. Today I received a form from them saying that since 2006 they have held their vendors to a lead standard of 200ppm. They also state that the lab they use is CPSIA certified. This doesn't help a bit if the ppm are supposed to be no greater than 100. It looks like you'll have to check on every singly type of button you purchase from them. Ugh!
