A little help please....

I am new to Etsy and have knitted animal tails listed (none sold) would someone be so kind as to look at them (http://www.etsy.com/shop/WyomingCreative?ref=si_shop) and let me know if I need some sort of tag or if I am exempt? I don't understand all of this.

Thank you so much!

Yes, you need to follow all the rules of the CPSIA, and need to have labels on your product. You may very well need to add FTC labels with fiber content and care instructions as your tails are for dress-up which I would think would be considered costumes.

And no you are not exempt, since you are selling a child's product.

bummer, I am a painter-- this was just a fun hobby/way to pass time I don't think it will be worth the added time and expense, I will pull my listings. I appreciate your help.

Making your own tags is actually not at all time consuming. Buy printable fabric sheets and run them through an inkjet (not laser) printer. The tails look cute!

I thought making lables was going to be a huge pain, it wasn't! Printable fabric is really easy to work with and I was very pleased with the results.

Re: A little help please....

The good thing (and bad) about this law is that it is written to include everyone from major manufacturers to grandma who is selling for pocket money. Using yarn and fiber fill makes complying easy as these are exempt materials and just require a label which you can print on an inkjet printer and printable material sheets from fabric stores like JoAnns.

And, yes, I know that the majors are getting around the testing in many creative ways.

It really is easy to use the printable material sheets. And if you buy the printable material sheets from Joann Fabrics, be sure to sign up to receive their mailers. There is always a 40% or 50% off coupon in the flyer and that will really save you some money. The printable material is not cheap! You can also sign up to receive Joann coupons via email.

place to contact, email or website something of that nature.

DOM

I think that's it I haven't printed out my own yet as I haven't sold anything for kids recently
The good type I saw that would be compliant on the DOM (date of make) is to make a general 11/12 W/S/S/F and then just stitch under the correct information. The exapmle I gave oviously stood for 2011 and 2012, winter, spring, summer, fall. I've also heard using a pen but that could be subject to someone getting gigh and mighty and demanding u test the pen, and I think printing the exact date is too time consuming as u would have to print a whole sheet I would think at a time. So that's a lot of premade items.

Re: A little help please....

Ok u didn't have anything up in your shop but since it said knitted I'm thinking u'll need a FTC label too, Anyone correct me if I'm wrong there, don't think I read an exclution for tails haha although I don't remember what any of that stuff was. I don't think FTC is shutting people down though like I've heard the CPSC has. But that's just a care label and if u got the printable sheets I would do half a sheet with the cpsia information and then half a sheet with care instructions. then just sew them together at the top of the item I mean really how many things do u see with the tags all together.

Re: A little help please....

@moescrochet, thanks, I took my items off until I can sort out the tags. Good idea to sew them together, I think I will order the printable sheet and give it a try, I appreciate your help!

Re: A little help please....

I've been ordering tags through people on etsy (misslabel) and they are really cheap ($20/50 labels) and look awesome!
