Have not watched 60 Minutes since they began staging & making things up for their show. YEARS ago! Can't believe they are still on.
CNN lost me as a viewer that same way.

They didn't even touch on the fact that not all pthalates are created equally. Seems like they are just trying to scare the general public by not giving all of the information.

There is always something. Don't stand in front of the microwave, don't use a cell phone, don't heat up your food in plastic, Call hasmat if there is a mercury spill (which by the way I had lots of fun playing with as a kid).
Honestly, sometimes I think the stress of thinking about what may kill us will kill us.

wow, this is rather disturbing and not the way THEY intended for it to disturb me... I agree SissysArt, there WILL always be SOMETHING for them to 'scare' the public with...

it's just like the nutrition thing... eggs are good for you, eat eggs! oh-no, eggs have cholesterol.. eggs are bad.. don't eat eggs.. yep.. eggs are good for you.. the 'incredible-edible-egg' lol..

this too shall pass... as soon as they find the OTHER lab rats that are running around with 4 back legs from ufo radiation... lol

....well to add to the list of things we did as kids that altered our DNA, because we didn't know any better, how about running behind the truck that sprayed the neighborhood for mosquitos? I shudder to think of it, but I did it!

That was a good article. I have been following some of the problems with these chemicals for a while now...not because I make childrens' things, but just as a general concern. I talked about phthalates a little bit in one of my blogs: http://moorethanfine.blogspot.com/2010/03/okay.html

I avoid them when I can. Since I plan on trying to get pregnant within the next 5 years or so, I want to have a safe place for my baby. Phthalates are one of many things to avoid when possible...though it isn't really likely that we can avoid them altogether.

I did wonder about the guy who made telescopes for kids. Instead of testing it, why not make a telescope without the offending chemical? Wouldn't that cost a LOT less? Just curious.

Plastic bags, plastic wrap, plastic food packaging: this is a major source of pthalate injestion, and they never seem to talk about it.

janeeroberti - it's true. It's all about the more "emotional" things like kids toys. Seriously...it's in a LOT more places than that. Like they said...even the plastic hospital tubing in infants was getting it into their systems.
