2.2 MILLION cribs RECALLED made between 2000 to 2009 from 7 major companies

Though not specifically a CPSIA recall, I though that due to the sheer breath and scope involved in the recall there may be parents here that need to know about these recalls. The cribs ranged in price from $100 to over $650, the recall is on most cribs that use drop-down side to access the baby more easily, but there are a few models that have fixed stationary sides that have entrapment issues as well.

Many of these cribs are currently available on Craiglist and other 2nd hand swap sites as well as at thrift and charity stores. Check the links for your brand of crib to see if recalled and carefully follow the instructions on the CPSC recall release on what to do for tht particular model crib.

We have 3 of these recalled cribs in my family....was planning on selling them this year...but it's to the dump with them.

My 4 year old son's crib was involved in the last recall. Nothing is safe anymore. Thankfully, my daughter's crib is not involved in this one.

we did have one of those jenny lind cribs, and the drop-down side did detach one night and slant into the sleeping area. we went upstairs to find our youngest sleeping with the bottom attachements completely loose from the bed and the side held on at an angle by only the top ones. he was the one always trying to escape, scary how close he came to being trapped. at the time i assumed he was just rough with it and broke it (because he'd a little monster), but maybe it wasn't all him.

regardless, we threw it away last year and cut each side in half so no one would dumpster dive and get a broken crib. if anyone tosses theirs, please break it in some obvious, fatal way so someone can't take it off your curb and use it!

Yes by all means if you are going to toss the crib even after you get the retrofit kits make sure it can't be used as a crib again. When I worked for a national retailer of nursery furniture we had a working agreement with a local marina that would take any recalled crib. The staff there would render it down to the base components, the marina would keep only the spindles for boat repairs then send the hardware and the rest of the wood frame for recycling. In return they would give us an affidavit of destruction to have on file for the government and the manufacturer so we could get the recall credits.

I had one of the cribs. I can't imagine how entrapment could have happened in that model. It's so sad and frustrating.

thanks for the heads up. Mine is on the recall list. I just signed up on their website to get a conversion kit to make the drop side immovable. No biggie, we never drop it down anyway.

Our crib is on the recall list. We're using it without the dropside right now (in toddler bed mode) and planning to stop using it later this summer. Good to know though, so we can destroy it before disposing of it, or haul it straight to the dump.

My son fell out of his crib due to the drop side giving way. THIS WAS 21 years ago!! It amazes me that NOW they are recalling all these cribs when it obviously was happening a long time ago! The manufacturer was good about replacing the crib and we assumed we had gotten a "dud". Now it makes me wonder if most cribs are unsafe...

2.2 million cribs being recalled..... How many injuries???

How many injuries into how many cribs sold?? How mamy of those cribs that did in fact have an injury, were because the parent didn't latch them properly, or didn't put them together correctly in the first place?

How does this correspond with how many children have chocked on hot dogs, tater tots, and candy that moms' and dad's have fed them? How many kids have fallen down the stairs in 2 story homes (How dare you to have children in 2 story homes without government permission!)

This is the typical knee jerk reaction that the gov screams... "It's a Crisis, an Epidemic, a Disaster, a Danger to your Children, that Only WE can handle."!!! We have to take control, and scare the pants off all the parents, who are too afraid to take control of their and their own chldrens lives, and leave it all to us.

Take a look at where all these "unsafe drop side cribs were made" . Let's take a guess, that big country on the other side of the world that owns most of the debt in this country, and much of the land.

How about you recycle the materials instead of dumping them? There should be plenty of usable wood in there.

Our crib wasn't recalled (Graco) but I'm worried about having a drop side one. Thinking of nailing the side to the legs of the crib.

Our crib was Simplicity (convertible w/ changer attached) and recalled due to the supports under the mattress. We absolutely loved the crib and had changed it to the toddler bed already, but we love our son more (duh!) We were able to return it to Babies R Us, and my husband talked the manager into crediting my card again. We bought a new toddler bed from there, though, too.

We also had an Infantino sling that was recalled...worked well for us, but we can definitely see how it could go wrong...

I have one of the Baby Italia ones, and I got to thinking that it seems like EVERY baby product made is being recalled. Its about time for me to start putting him in his crib, but I'm thinking of looking into a cosleeper for my bed. I'm not going to get rid of the crib or destroy it--my cat's managed to sleep in it almost everyday without getting hurt LOL. Seriously, though, I'm just going to order the repair kit and keep using it. I don't have the money to keep buying. Somehow we all managed to stay alive with the baby equipment from yesteryear that probably wouldn't pass muster today.

The crib that we bought when I was pregnant with our son back in 2007 was recalled in 2008! It never fails to amaze me at the number of crib, car seat, baby gear recalls that happen every year. It makes you wonder about spending any kind of decent money on a high-end product, because chances are, it's just going to be recalled in six months!

At any rate, I'm pregnant with #2 right now, and we'll have to get a brand new crib. But I don't think we're going to go with a drop side crib, since those seem to be the target of all the recalls...
