100% Polyurethane

I want to use some 100% Polyurethane (made in the USA) clear domed stickers that are used to seal images in bottle caps. Do these need testing? I am asking because I can't find a company that has had them tested and upon doing some more reading on the CPSIA site there is no way to test for phthalates. Since they state that they are made of 100% Polyurethane can I assume that they are okay?

Re: 100% Polyurethane

Contact the ombudsman at the CPSC. Can't answer that one.

Re: 100% Polyurethane

Well, no answer from the ombudsman. I'm sure he's a very busy person, but I'm impatient. However I have e-mailed a couple companies to ask about testing and heard back from one today. Their reply was that their understanding is since the epoxy and polyurethane dots are neither plastic or metal they do not require testing. Ok, thats nice, but it's not really considered an expempt material (is it?).... so what now?

Re: 100% Polyurethane

PU is not made using lead. Unless added for a desired effect it does not contain phthalates. Its actually chemically similar to polyester... finally all the that college chemistry has come in handy in uderstanding some of this non-sense. Technically I think it's supposed to be tested, but 100% polyurethane in the way it is made contains nothing that is going to poison or make anybodys child sterile.
