Most popular canvas sizes

Hi everyone!

I'm new to Etsy so I hope some experienced users can enlighten me. :)

Right now, I'm working with different canvas sizes (8x10 – 18x24) and I was wondering... what canvas size sells better here on Etsy? Do you think it makes any difference if the artwork is on panel, unstretched or stretched canvas?

Re: Most popular canvas sizes

PhantasyArtStudio, really wonderful questions, I am personally using unstretched canvas for the main reason that:

-I live in England right now and need to ship my work internationally (rolling is the most affordable and safest option) - I also provide numerous presentation suggestions so that my clients can choose to frame, stretch, hang as is (see any original painting listing of mine for an example)

I imagine that 8x10 would probably sell faster as you could put a smaller price tag on it, but I personally like painting bigger so I do mostly around the 18x24 range (varies slightly with European sizing). I just try to keep my prices reasonable to encourage more sales ;o).

I hope this helps. I think if you go the stretched or panel route you'll want to figure out packaging/shipping early on and which countries you can afford to send it to without breaking the bank ;o).

hugs,
brienna

Re: Most popular canvas sizes

Oh! I was looking everywhere for some images of those clips (the one that go on top and bottom that you’re using in your store) to see how they look on a print! I thought they were cheap looking, but they are nice especially for “my project”. :)

Returning to the topic. I was thinking, if the buyer want to frame/stretch the painting, isn't more expensive than the normal shipping of a stretched canvas?

Brienna, that is really smart what you do about unstretched canvas so it's easier to ship Very smart! The size and material question; Never ever use canvas board, it cheapens work and isn't durable. I think canvas, masonite are great material and can be cheap if one does research. The largest I have sold on Etsy was a24x30. I think the sizes you are working on are great. I do a lot of those also in those sizes.

Re: Most popular canvas sizes

10x10 seems to be the magic number for me. They are easy to fit in a priority flat rate box. I just listed my first 12x12's, but they will be $5 to $10 more to ship, depending on where they go and I have to find my own boxes. I guess I just love the ease of the smaller sizes. I am always astounded at shops here in Etsy who sell huge paintings, like 2'x4' and include shipping, for $100 or $150. I don't know how they do it when the shipping seems like it would cost $50or more in itself. Maybe they ship UPS or freight?

I wanted to add too that I was doing 9x12 also, and it seems like people like square sizes alot, so my 10x10's sold better.
