Re: Welcome New and Old Members

On for a bit. Rainy day.
I'm fine, have been busy. Had the Veteran's cemetery ceremony on Friday and tried to get a lot of stuff out for the kids to sort through. Getting company again this weekend - 'old' friends from MN. Then life will calm down, I think.

Congrats to all you busy-bodies!

Re: Welcome New and Old Members

Jan, are you in the line of bad weather? Busy is good. Just remember to take time for yourself. Go outside and take a walk with the pup.

We're having bad weather here. T-storms and tornado warnings all around us but we're OK. I don't want to get out in the rain but I have several things I need to do. PO and UPS which are in opposite directions.

Waves to all and have good one....

Jan it's good to be busy. How's that exercise program going?

Re: Welcome New and Old Members

Good morning all.

About the exercise - yes, I still go but I don't think I even HAVE any 'abs'!!! ;-)
Haven't had any bad weather right here. Just wet.

Had a tree trimmer/cutter-downer come yesterday for estimate. It's a 'go' but he won't be here for a few weeks, probably. There's a couple weak trees near the house that I want cut down and one great old gnarly Mulberry that needs pruning.

Paid my house insurance and am told that they won't cover any damages on my house roof now because it is 20 years old.

Re: Welcome New and Old Members

Jan, better safe than sorry with the roof and trees. That's crazy that it wouldn't be covered. All the years we pay insurance and then if we need it we get slammed with higher premiums. Or not be covered!

I'm heading back to the studio. Same story, different day. Tomorrow I head to my Greensboro gallery with 2 containers of pottery. Yay!

It's a little cool here this morning and warming to mid 70's. Lovely fall day! Maybe I'll get a walk in later.

More commission dust! •:*¨¨*:•:,¸¸,:•:*¨¨*:•:,¸¸,.•*

Re: Welcome New and Old Members

Good morning!

Jan good to get those things taken care of before they cause bigger problems.
I filed one claim on my house insurance, they canceled on me after 20 years of taking my monthly checks!! I was told by an insurance adjuster , "Our companies are in business to make money, not pay it out!!"
So are you going to get a new roof?

Julie congrats to you.

I think this weekend may be our last glory days of fall colors.

Waves to all!

Re: Welcome New and Old Members

The more I think about it, the poorer my attitude. When I talked to the insurance office a couple weeks ago they said it would cost a little extra for the 20 year old roof (that looks perfectly fine, was the longest-guaranteed shingles available but I don't remember how long!) and I was willing to pay that. Then when I went in again she flat said they won't cover the roof. So I'm thinking: exactly what does she mean?! If a tree fell or a wind came along and took off my roof that certainly wouldn't be the fault of 'old' shingles. You can see I'm getting fired up. Other roofs here are metal, that is what I would put on next. But not right now! I'm thinking maybe I should check around? I would pay more to have proper coverage. We did make considerable claim on this company (DH accident) a few years ago so shouldn't complain about them, actually..........Tim are they coming up with this because my DH isn't here to raise h--l? Well, I suppose not. It must be the official word.

Re: Welcome New and Old Members

Jan, I can't say you are getting the short end of the stick just because you are a woman.....but it sure is possible.
I would definitely shop around for insurance. Every single one of them have different rates and discounts. Stick with the better known companies and use Google to see if the ones you shop have a lot of complaints about payouts.
I just updated my home insurance and ended up with Farmers. I used to have State Farm, but a bad experience with a claim, years ago, left a bad taste in my mouth.

Good morning!

Jan, I've been a single gal since the early '90's, and I've found if your not somewhat aggressive like a guy, one sort of gets looked over, around, or not seen at all. I agree with what Tim advised.
How foolish not to cover a roof. Now if they would have said, anything inside the house damaged by water coming through the roof due to worn shingles, well that's a horse of a different color.
Good grief!

Busy making memorial service preparations for Oct 25, my son's ashes finally arrived from Austria!

Waves to everyone. Have a good fall weekend.--:-)

Re: Welcome New and Old Members

Good morning!

It was a busy day yesterday delivering pottery to Greensboro. 4 magnolias and bunches of other stuff. She should be set for the rest of the year.

I've got lots of errands to run this morning. 2 banks, 1 PO and grocery store.

Plus more work in the shop. I got another commission of honey jars from the lady that ordered 6. After she got them she decided she needed some more. I'm not complaining! Commissions have been good this year. Although, I've had a few not come back to buy. I don't really mind that because it's always something I can sell anyway.

Jan, what Tim said. You should look around for other insurance options.

Klaire, will your family be all together for the service? I know it will be special.

Waves to all. Annie, are you out there? Have a good one....

Re: Welcome New and Old Members

Morning all and Happy Friday!

Klaire - Thinking of you.

Jan - definitely check out other insurance companies. A friend had his insurance company not cover this roof since it was wood shake (sp) and it was considered too high of a fire danger for our area. He replaced the roof.

Check with an insurance broker, a company that can look at many different companies rather than just one. Farmers' agents are brokers. State Farm, Allstate only sell their proprietary products. I also like having a local agent.

I have been sewing around and around and around. Making tree skirts for a big show on Sunday.

Will catch up later.

Re: Welcome New and Old Members

Good Sunday morning!

Yes, Klaire, I'll be having open house the first Saturday in Dec. I try to clean and rearrange a little bit each day so it's not such a monumental task. I'll send out invites the middle of Nov. And, of course, I'm still in the making mode for new stuff for the shop. And here. I'll usually make multiples so I have something for the studio and here.

We haven't had leaf peak yet but the sourwoods are really putting on a show right now.

It looks to be a gorgeous week this week. Chilly in the morning and pleasant in the afternoon.

So, no surprise, I'm heading to the studio. ;-)

Waves to any and all.....

Annie, feel better!

Jan, yay for good times with out of town company. I think we're having the same weather. Gorgeous!

Kiln fired yesterday with a bisque load so I'll be glazing tomorrow. And making b-day pound cake for DH for Thurs.

I got Halloween decorations out yesterday. It was fun.

Klaire, sugar maples? They are so beautiful. Our red maples are pretty spectacular, too.

Have a good evening everyone and waves to all...

Re: Welcome New and Old Members

I'm here.
A little frost on the pumpkin this morning, but the sun is shining and the weekend look to be glorious.

I got sucked into doing a little mechanic's work yesterday. Brought the daughter's car in to do a little trans work and ended up doing it myself, plus install a new axle on another car. That's what I get for going back to the shop I used to work at! It's all good though, Ended up costing me nothing to fix the kid's car and proved to myself that I still got it! Now if I can just get the grease out from under my nails.......

I've been putting together a newly updated website. grandprairiewoodworks dot com has been around for 15 years, but I haven't updated anything for at least 5 or 6 years. For some reason the new site will not upload and replace the antique one. Contacted support at my hosting company, hope to have the spankin new stand alone up and running soon.
I think I'm gonna be a Halloween "grinch" this year and not put up any of the Halloween decorations. Bah Humbug! Maybe the youngest will come home from college this weekend and do it for me. :-)

Re: Welcome New and Old Members

Good morning! I'm up way too early!

I've got a chiro appt today. It also my DH's b-day so I'll be cooking dinner for family tonight. I made pound cake yesterday and I still need to go to the grocery store.

I got another glaze load done yesterday, too. It's in the kiln right now. 2 more commissions in this one. I've been lucky to have the commissions this year but they do cause a fair amount of stress.

Tim, your new(old) web site sounds like a good thing. Will you have shopping cart ability? Or is it mostly a show case? Put out a pumpkin!

Have a great day and waves to all......

Good morning!

Julie, when you have much to do, it's easy to rise early---and from the sound of it, you have a full day! Enjoy!

Tim, one thing missing off the front page of your dot com site--the rings!!
Nice you could help your daughter out by fixing her car--saves big money for her!

Looks like sunshine today--:-)

Waves to all. Have a great day!

Re: Welcome New and Old Members

Yep, what you guys were looking at is my really, really old site. I put that together more than 8 years ago. Long before the rings and even before I was on Etsy.

I'm still trying to take down the old site, but have the new one up and running at gpwoodrings dot com It's not fully done yet, but I want to see how everything looks and works before I go trying to add a shopping cart or any other features.

Gotta run, two rings to polish up and get them off to the PO. I am working with a customer that wants 5 rings in one order! Yikes! Sure hope it works out!

Re: Welcome New and Old Members

Thanks, everyone, for your feedback concerning insurance. I haven't gotten around to talking to them yet, but I will do that first. I was just too preoccupied with other things at the time. Plus, I am getting used to the idea that I should put on a new roof next year. I think I am already with a lower-priced company. (Or so they said.)

Looking murky out there today but we are headed for a sunny 80 degrees again by Sunday.

I will check out that new website soon. It's time I got out of here......
