Re: Which ancient/historic technique or skill inspires you most?

There are loads of historical techniques that I would love to learn if money and time permitted but the one that inspires me the most (strangly enough) is bookbinding.

There are lots of seperate skills that go into it. Sewing headband / leather work / gold tooling etc.
There are also many things that old bindings can tell you about the people that made them. It's quite fascinating.....well to me at least.

Building and firing a luster-kiln like they did in Medieval Spain. I am so curious over that complicated technique.

Wow, love the answers of Leanne and Jeanne! There's so many.
Sewing - I look at the dresses from the French Revolution and the Victorian era and even older times and they are just incredible. So much detail. And they still exist! Can we say that of the clothes we wear today?

So many! Medieval calligraphy, historical music (I play 6 instruments almost daily!), leather work, celtic designs/knots...I am a living history reenactor myself so have made some of my own clothing and supplies for the 1700-1800s period. :)

Forging. I've closely examined medieval metalwork, and some of it takes my breath away. The sheer skill of some of the old masters is inspirational and will continue to be.
