Hi India sellers!

I’m excited to share that on Monday, November, 23rd, Etsy India will work with it’s third party partner agency here to offer some “Listing Critique” tips for Indian sellers on the forum!

Here are the details:

  • If you’d like to participate,
    • Join the Team: India Etsy Seller Support Network. This is where all the action will be happening so sign up in advance.
    • Head to the team on November 23rd at 10:00 AM IST to find the discussion - it will be called “Listing Critique:23rd November, 2020”. It’ll be pinned at the top! We will only look at listings that are posted on 23rd and 24th - so make sure you only post then.

Hi Tabassum,

Hope you are doing well! Thank you for participating in the Listing Critique. I absolutely love the orange and pink combination showcased on this lehenga with an ombre effect. It is perfect for the upcoming wedding season!

Coming to the suggestions for this listing, the first thing which jumps into my mind is the product photography. It’s important to use all available photo slots for the listing (right now you have 5 and you actually get up to 10). Because shoppers can’t pick up or try on your item before purchasing, more photos can give them a better understanding of what the item will be like when they receive it.

Additionally, there is a new option of adding a listing video now - which helps shoppers gain a clear picture of your product! Make sure you capture details that you’re not able to capture with your photos: angles, color or shine, movement, texture, size, item in use, variations, and even the unique process of making your item. Let your craft shine!

I think you are doing great with your tags, titles and description. I am really happy to see that you are providing free shipping which really attracts the buyers.

With the Christmas period approaching, and most shopping happening online, more shoppers from the US and UK will be looking for your help to make the season feel special. Check out some Holiday Trends for 2020 here - Marketplace Insights: 2020 Christmas Trends

Thank you for participating again. I wish you all the very best for the holiday season!!

Hi Team, request you to have a look at this listing: https://www.etsy.com/listing/850012524/stained-glass-led-light-up-wine-bottle?ref=shop_home_active_1...

Hi Swati!

Hope you’re doing well!

First of all, I must say that this is a beautiful hand painted glass LED bottle. I am sure that this will light up any corner of the house beautifully.

While you’re doing a great job with your shop overall, I found a few areas that you might want to focus on to reach more buyers:

I like how you have added so many photos of your product and also created a listing video, something we also emphasise on. However, I was wondering if you could make a different listing for every different design that you are offering. When you create a different listing for each design, it lets your product shine through even more.

And in case, you think what all other shots you could include if not different designs, you can consider adding a packaging shot, this will allow your buyers to visualise how the product will look like when it reaches them. You can also add a scale shot that lets your buyers visually see the dimensions of the product.

You can also add a lifestyle shot, where you let your buyers see what the product looks like when it's in a setting or a surrounding where it might belong. Perhaps, you could hang it in your balcony or keep it in your living room.

For product photography ideas and inspirations, you can refer to the article given below: https://www.etsy.com/in-en/seller-handbook/article/7-essential-types-of-product-photos/22504064051

Also, your first image of the listing (also known as the thumbnail photo) is very important, since this is the first impression of your listing. Try to include the entire picture of the product in your thumbnail photo so that the buyer can see as a whole what your product is even before clicking on it. It also makes for a great first impression.

Congratulations on getting 5 star reviews! Positive customer reviews are key to building a successful Etsy shop. Try and get as many reviews for your shop as possible. Here is a helpful article on 5 Ways to Get Great Reviews

I see your item is categorized correctly and you’re using lots of attributes, which is great! That really helps your item get found by the right buyers.

I love that you have a gift wrap option, it adds a very nice touch and helps with those last minute purchases late in the Holiday season.

Hi Mohib,

Hope you are doing well and safe! I am Shweta, a member of the Etsy Community team, India. I want to thank you for your participation in the listing critique program.

Congratulations on getting all 5 star reviews on your shop!

I love how professional your shop looks with the banner and the logo and not to forget the story. The story plays a vital role in building a connection with the buyer and you have done it perfectly.

Now, I can see a few things that might need some changes, to get better views and visits.

Let’s start with the listing section. The first thing that I would recommend to you is to think about what a buyer will search for while curating your product title. You can put the title in 3-4 phrases, separated by commas that describe the product identity in a simple readable format. For example: “Handmade Gold-plated Necklace, Custom made Jewellery, Hindi Devnagri script Neck piece” makes for a good title!

Coming to your product photography, I love that you have someone model your product. It gives a personalized feel to each product. I would recommend you to add packaging shots and process shots to show the buyers how you make these beautiful handmade gold-plated chains. It will help you to justify the cost of your listing as well.

For product photography ideas and inspirations, you can refer to the article given below: https://www.etsy.com/in-en/seller-handbook/article/7-essential-types-of-product-photos/22504064051

When it comes to your photos, make sure your product is the star, not your logo. Advertising platforms typically prohibit watermarks or other promotional text on images. It’s also recommended to avoid cluttered backgrounds or added borders that can distract from the item itself.

It’s great that you have added a listing video of your product.  It gives a more clear picture of your product.

You can make some changes in the tags section. I can see you have used one-word tags. I would recommend you to use tags with multiple words or phrases. It needs to be descriptive and accurate to your product. Think like a buyer while phrasing the tags. For example- Handmade necklace, Custom made Necklace, Gold Plated Name jewellery,

Brass metal Necklace, Jewellery for her, gift for her, anniversary gift, Personalised gift, Wedding gift, minimalistic necklace, statement jewelry, Christmas gift, etc.

You are providing free shipping and I think that has surely worked for you as it’s a great way to attract buyers.

With the Christmas period approaching, and most shopping happening online, more shoppers from the US and UK will be looking for your help to make the season feel special. Check out some Holiday Trends for 2020 here - Marketplace Insights: 2020 Christmas Trends

Rest everything looks good to me. I wish you all the best for the holiday season!

Hi Amee, hope you are doing great! I am Shweta from the community team Etsy, India. I really like your shop. It is really colorful and eye catchy. This shaded scarf is really very classy and will surely add to the elegant look.

Coming to a few suggestions that could make your product reach more buyers:

  • Title: When it comes to listing titles, you want to lead with what you think a buyer is most likely to type into search when shopping for an item like yours. I always suggest adding in 2-3 more other relevant phrases and separate them with a comma as it increases the visibility of your shop. For example, “handmade mustard scarf, designer wrap on for women, soft rayon stole for ladies” makes for a great title!
  • Tags: You have used all the 13 tags which is really great. I would suggest you think from the buyer perspective and then write the tags accordingly. For example- mustard scarf, wrap for women, gift for her, birthday gift, christmas gift, rayon stole, designer scarf, thanksgiving gift, stylish stole, handmade scarf etc.
  • Photos: I noticed that there were photos that featured a watermark or text overlaid. I would recommend letting your awesome product shine through, and leaving the text for the product description. Photos with watermarks or copy overlaid make it challenging to promote more broadly.

With the Christmas period approaching, and most shopping happening online, more shoppers from the US and UK will be looking for your help to make the season feel special. Check out some Holiday Trends for 2020 here - Marketplace Insights: 2020 Christmas Trends

Hello Alifiya,

Hope you are doing well! Super happy to see you here in the forums!

I must say that all the face masks look absolutely stunning!

I have curated a few suggestions after having a look at your listing that can help it make even stronger:

My first suggestion will be around the photographs! While you have added as many as 10 aesthetically pleasing photographs of your listings- which is excellent, there are some other shots that you can also consider.

You can consider adding a scale shot which visually communicates the dimensions of the product to the buyer, you can simply put your product against a ruler in order to take a scale shot.

Additionally, there is a new option of adding a listing video now - which helps shoppers gain a clear picture of your product! Videos provide a lot more information about the product that the shopper’s can’t get from photos. A listing video may also influence their decision to purchase an item. Make sure you capture details that you’re not able to capture with your photos: angles, color or shine, movement, texture, size, item in use, variations, and even the unique process of making your item. Let your craft shine!

Congratulations on all your 5 star reviews! Positive customer reviews are key to building a successful Etsy shop. Try and get as many reviews for your shop as possible. Here is a helpful article on 5 Ways to Get Great Reviews

You can also include a shop member section, this space allows you to write about yourself in a few lines (250 characters), writing a shop member section is good for the credibility of your shop and lets your buyers know that there is a real human working behind the shop

Rest, everything else looks great to me!

Hello Priyanka, hope you are doing well! First of all, I would like to Congratulate you for the 5 star review. I really like this hand block print kurta with sharara and it’s a great festive wear. I am really looking forward to critiquing your listing.

First thing which jumps into my mind while reviewing your listing is your listing title. I would suggest you to write 3-4 descriptive phrases and segregate them with commas which will make your title clear and readable. For example- “Hand Block Printed Kurta With Sharara, Silk Mustard Yellow Tunic Set, Handmade Organic Traditional Party Wear”

Regarding your photographs, they look fantastic!  You’ve done a great job with the lighting, as well as showing the dress from different angles. However, there is a new option of adding a listing video now - which helps shoppers gain a clear picture of your product! Make sure you capture details that you’re not able to capture with your photos: angles, color or shine, movement, texture, size, item in use, variations, and even the unique process of making your item. Let your craft shine!

Also, I would suggest adding information to the “shop member section” where you can write about yourself and about your team members in an elaborate manner.

Hello Niraja, hope you are doing great!

Thank you for sharing this Santa hoop art listing  - it’s so cute and perfect for Christmas. You have done a good job optimizing your shop overall. However, I have a few suggestions for you to take you to the next level:

  • I noticed that you have already added a wide variety of product images in terms of scaling, close up and multiple angles (not to forget product video), good work! My only piece of advice here to make your photography more attractive would be to add lifestyle or packaging shots.
  • The second thing I would like to shed light on would be the product title. I observed you are using full stop to separate phrases here, hence I would recommend you start using commas as these are more readable (according to our buyer research). It’s really important to use descriptive words in your title, framed keeping in mind your potential buyers. So try to make use of more complete and relevant 3-4 phrases, something like “Custom embroidered hoop art, Christmas living room decor, Santa theme wall hanging, Personalized festive gifts”
  • If you need inspiration with what type of keywords to use, check out this article given below: Keywords 101: Everything You Need to Know

Hello Team Etsy,

Thank you for this opportunity! I request you to take a look at this listing from my shop: https://www.etsy.com/in-en/listing/725482820/3-line-hyderabadi-white-pearl-chain?ref=shop_home_activ...

Hi Disha!

I’m Shweta and I work in the Community team here at Etsy India. I must say that the pearl necklace looks so classy and elegant!

It looks like you are using some of the best practices already for your listing and your listing is quite strong. However, I have a few suggestions that can help you in making this listing stronger for the upcoming holiday season and festivities!

Firstly, I’ll talk about the photographs. I think you have done a great job by adding 5 angles of the product to your listing. You can add as many as 10! The more images you add, the more you are letting your buyers visualise the product.

You can consider adding a packaging shot, this shot will allow the buyers to visualise what the product will look like when it reaches them. You can also consider adding a scale shot wherein you can communicate the dimensions of the product visually to the buyers by keeping this necklace against a ruler.

For more ideas on photography, you can have a look at this helpful article curated by Etsy on Jewellery photography

Next, I’ll talk about the tags. I like how you have utilised all 13 tags (very important). Your tags act as keywords and contribute to the searchability of your listing on the platform. However, please refrain from using single word tags such as hyderabadpearjewels, hyderabadipearl, freshwaterpearlchain etc. Multi word or multi phrase tags tend to work better on Etsy. For example, you can consider using tags, such as: Hyderabadi pearls, pearl necklace, Pearl chain, freshwater pearls, stranded pearl chain etc.

Always remember that tags can include the colour, style, purpose and the material specific to the product.

Positive customer reviews are key to building a successful Etsy shop. Try and get as many reviews for your shop as possible. Here is a helpful article on 5 Ways to Get Great Reviews

Lastly, please consider adding information to the “About section” and the “shop member section”. About section is a space that allows you to write about your business, products, experience etc and a shop member section is where you can write about yourself in a line or two. It just lets your buyers know that there is a real human running this Etsy shop and of course also adds to the credibility of your Etsy shop. To get inspiration on how to write About section, refer to this link: How to Craft a Killer About Section

With the Christmas period approaching, and most shopping happening online, more shoppers from the US and UK will be looking for your help to make the season feel special. Check out some Holiday Trends for 2020 here - Marketplace Insights: 2020 Christmas Trends

Thank you for submitting your listing! Wishing you success with the upcoming holiday season!

Hi Nupur,

Hope you are doing well and safe.

So overall your shop is in a great shape and looks professional with the banner and logo. You have done a good job with the story part as well. It will help you to build a connection with the buyer. It’s good to see that you are offering free shipping.

Now, I would like to suggest a few things for your listing part. A few changes here and there and you are good to go!

The first thing that I would recommend to you is to think like a buyer while curating your product title. You can put the title in 3-4 phrases, separated by commas that describe the product identity in a simple, readable format.

For example: Indian Wedding Jewellery,  Gold Matha Patt for kids i, Necklace and Earring Set.

Coming to your product photography, you have done diverse photography that captures the product clearly, which is great. You can also include a process shot in your secondary photos, to showcase how your product is made. For product photography ideas and inspirations, you can refer to the article given below: https://www.etsy.com/uk/seller-handbook/article/case-study-how-to-photograph-jewellery/150875867017

To make your listing even stronger I would suggest you to add a listing video of your product.  It will give a more clear picture of your product to the buyer. Make sure you capture details that you’re not able to capture with your photos: angles, color or shine, movement, texture, size, item in use, variations, and even the unique process of making your item. Let your craft shine!

One other recommendation is, make sure to use all 13 available tags with multiple words or phrases. Think from the buyer’s perspective and then write the tags accordingly. It needs to be descriptive and accurate to your product. For example: Indian gold jewelry, ethnic jewelry, jewelry for her, wedding jewelry, gold matha Patti, kids hair accessory, handmade jewelry, gift for her, anniversary gift, Christmas gift, vintage style jewelry, ghungroo jewelry, gold tikka headpiece.

Hello Sona, hope you are doing great well. I am Shweta from the community team at Etsy, India. Thank you so much for participating in the listing critique. I really like this resin art miniature. I am really excited to review your listing.

Here are a few suggestions to make your listing stronger for success:

  1. Title: I would recommend including 3-4 relevant phrases in the title that buyers might be searching for on Etsy. I would also suggest you to separate them with the commas which makes the title clear and readable. For example: “Island Miniature Resin Artwork, Miniature Wooden Table Decor, Beach Art On Mdf Base”
  2. Product photography: I can see that you have added only 2 photos. There are 10 different angles of photography that you can add. The more product photos you provide, the more a buyer can gain confidence about purchasing the item. The few different angles that you can use while doing your listing are: 7 Essential Types of Product Photos
  3. Listing Video: There is a new option of adding a listing video now - which helps shoppers gain a clear picture of your product! Make sure you capture details that you’re not able to capture with your photos: angles, color or shine, movement, texture, size, item in use, variations, and even the unique process of making your item. Let your craft shine!
  4. Tags: It looks like you’re using tags for your listing but they are a little brief. We find that using tags with multiple words or phrases that are as specific as possible work the best for matching your listing with the perfect buyer. Think of tags as keywords that buyers will input into the search bar on Etsy to find your items. You can try adding something like “ocean artwork, table decor, island miniature, gift for art lovers” etc.

Lastly, increase your chance of getting found by shoppers by adding more listings and variety to your shop.

Hi Ninoshka, Ashley!

Your fabric tangram puzzle looks amazing and can surely help kids hone their creative and mathematical skills!

Your shop seems to be in great shape and it seems like your buyers are really happy with their purchase. I have a couple of suggestions for you to make this even stronger:

  1. I absolutely loved how you have added different angles of the product. You can consider taking one picture of packaging since this makes for a perfect gift. You can also add a photo of you in the process of making this puzzle or of a recipient opening the product, this would help bring the listing to life.
  2. I also think that there’s an area of opportunity to shorten your title to 4 phrases and merge some of the terms to include more complete and descriptive words. For example, “Tangram toys for kids, Recycled geometric educational puzzles, Textured fabric 7 piece game, Jigsaw Montessori toys” seems to convey your item more appropriately.
  3. Talking about your tags, they are spot on. My only suggestion here would be to use keywords like “christmas gift, thanksgiving gift” etc., to target the seasonal shoppers. Here is an article from the seller handbook that you can refer to, to get more ideas on the kind of keywords that you can use for your product: Keywords 101: Everything You Need to Know

Your feedback would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Anchal, hope you are doing well!

This looks like a beautiful floral printed greeting card. It looks so creative yet simple!

I have curated a list of suggestions that you can consider to make your listing ready for success:

  1. Photographs: It’s great how you have already added about 5 photos to your listings, however you can add as many as 10, the more photos you add the more clarity your buyers have about the product that you are selling. Perhaps, you can consider taking a process shot showcasing how you made this card. You can also add a shot where you show what the card looks like from the back , whether its plain or printed. You can have a look at this article by Etsy, that suggests some ideas to photograph your products: 7 Essential Types of Product Photos
  2. Listing Video: You can also create a listing video. This helps shoppers gain a clear picture of your product!
  3. Title: While you have written a great title for your listing, we usually suggest that you write a title that's about 3-4 relevant phrases. I was wondering if you could trim down your title to just “Thanksgiving Card Downloadable, Digital Greeting Card, Thoughtful Cards, PDF Grateful Cards”- this is just an example, you can use whichever word (s) you feel best describe your product
  4. Tags: Please consider using all 13 tags. Tags are very important and can help your listing appear in the search of the buyer. Tags can include descriptive words about your listing, they can include the color, style, purpose and the material specific to your product. Examples: Digital card, greeting card, floral card, Easy to download etc.  If you need inspiration for coming up with tags, you can use the Etsy search bar. As you type in a search, a dropdown list will appear with suggestions of the most searched phrases using the words you entered. If you see any that are relevant to your items, try adding them as tags to have higher chances of coming up in the search.
  5. Shop Members Section: Fill out your shop member section. Getting to see the person behind the products will give them greater confidence to make a purchase, and learning your personal story will inspire loyalty to your brand. Take prospective buyers behind the scenes of your passion and your process to deepen their understanding of what makes your shop so special.

Lastly, increase your chance of getting found by shoppers by adding more listings and variety to your shop.

First of all, I would like to congratulate you for all the 5 star reviews. Your shop is top notch and I can see that you have worked really hard to optimize your shop in the best way. One thing which I would like to suggest is framing your title. You have already written 2 phrases in your title which is great but it would be good if you could add one or two more. For example- Beaded Ornament For Christmas Tree, Paper Bead Tree, Handcrafted Christmas Tree Ornament etc.

Apart from this, I can see that three more photo slots are empty and I encourage you to use them. The more angles you will show, the more buyers will be interested in your product.

With the Christmas period approaching, and most shopping happening online, more shoppers from the US and UK will be looking for your help to make the season feel special. Check out some Holiday Trends for 2020 here - Marketplace Insights: 2020 Christmas Trends

I hope that this has been helpful and that you have a very successful holiday season!

Best,

Hi Diksha,

Hope you are doing well. My name is Shweta and I work for the Community team at Etsy, India.

Thank you for sharing your listing with us! Your work is unique and beautiful. You have maintained your shop quite well with the banner and the logo. You have done a good job with the story part as well.

The first thing that I would recommend to you is to think about what a buyer will search for while curating your product title. Keep it in a descriptive form. For example- “Ceramic Ornaments For Christmas, Christmas Home Decor, Handmade Tree Decorations”.

There is not much to change in your shop as you have already checked off all the boxes. One thing that I would recommend you is to consider adding a process shot to your photos to show the buyer what it looks like while you’re in the process of making it.

One other recommendation that I want to add is to make sure to use all 13 available tags. For example- Christmas home decor, Christmas vibe, Christmas tree ornaments, Christmas gifts, Handmade tree ornaments, Christmas tree decor, custom made gifts.

With the Christmas period approaching, and most shopping happening online, more shoppers from the US and UK will be looking for your help to make the season feel special. Check out some Holiday Trends for 2020 here - Marketplace Insights: 2020 Christmas Trends

I hope these tips help. Best of luck this holiday season!

Hello Mansi and Jugal,

I’m Shweta and I work for the Community team here at Etsy, India.

I must say, the photograph in your listing looks so unique and retro! It definitely adds to the beauty of one’s home or office.

Before I share my suggestions with you, I must say that a lot of things look well in place already. It’s a strong listing to begin with! I love how you have added so many different angles of the product and added a listing video as  well - good job

Coming to the critique, I noticed that you are using 2 phrases in your title, we usually suggest that you can use 3-4 relevant phrases for your listing. This can allow you to use more descriptive words about your listing. Here’s an example: “Retro Cassette Mixtape Photograph, Minimal Photography,Instant download photograph, Retro wall decor” - like i said, this is just an example of what we think your title should look like, you can consider using any other word/phrase that you think best describes your product.

Next, I see that you have used all 13 tags- which is great! However, try and avoid the usage of single word tags such as “mixtape”. Multiword or multiphrase tags to work better on Etsy rather than single word tags.

Tags act as keywords and help your listing appear in the search of the buyer. Tags can include the colour, style, purpose and the material specific to the product. For example, you can use tags, such as : retro wall art, easy to download, mixtape photograph etc.

I see your item is categorized correctly and you’re using lots of attributes, which is great! That really helps your item get found by the right buyers.

Next, I see that you have made a sale - congratulations! Positive customer reviews are key to building a successful Etsy shop. Try and get as many reviews for your shop as possible. Here is a helpful article on 5 Ways to Get Great Reviews

Hi Sourashree!

I’m Shweta and I work for the Community team here at Etsy India.

First and foremost I have to say that your painting is awesome - so detailed and realistic! I especially loved the primary image with a table setting, it’s so well done!

Below are a few recommendations to optimize your listing and get more eyes on it:

  • Photos: I see that you are using photos that show your item from different angles and with different backgrounds, good job! However, it would be great to have a scenic image illustrating the product being used (lifestyle shot) or a picture of you making this flower portrait (packaging shot). To understand better on what type of pictures to include, please go through the article given below: 7 Essential Types of Product Photos
  • Listing Video: You can also add a product video to highlight the features of your product. Make sure you capture details that you’re not able to capture with your photos: angles, color or shine, movement, texture, size, item in use, variations, and even the unique process of making your item. Let your craft shine!
  • Title: I would suggest you limit yourself to 3-4 phrases while crafting titles and put the rest in your tags. Think of phrases a buyer would enter when searching for your product. You can consider something like “Rose portrait on paper, White flower living room decoration, Framed oil painting, Art lovers gift”
  • Tags: Think of tags as your opportunity that best describe your unique product. Each tag you add is a chance to match with a shopper’s search and we offer upto 13! Also, avoid using incomplete words like “for friends, for wife, small flowers”. Terms like “small flower art, white rose portrait, framed paintings, floral wall art, custom wall hanging, valentines day gift, christmas gift, thanksgiving gift, botanical artwork, nature lovers gift” can be considered.

With the Christmas period approaching, and most shopping happening online, more shoppers from the US and UK will be looking for your help to make the season feel special. Check out some Holiday Trends for 2020 here - Marketplace Insights: 2020 Christmas Trends

I hope you have a lovely holiday season! Happy to help!
