Your strangest dreams

I'm surprised to hear about how many people either 'don't' dream or rarely remember their dreams. My whole life I've always been a vivid dreamer. So much so I sometimes find myself having to re-orient myself when I wake up. Particularly bad ones can stay with me for days.

Those who do remember, I love hearing about them. A friend of mine dreams so much about this one non-existent town that he actually started drawing a map of it.

This morning I woke up reflecting on my dream and wondering 'who slipped hallucinogenics in my tea'?

Last night I dreamt that I gave birth to quadruplets and my husband made me go larping with him right afterward in plaid pants. We got there via the 'ramen district' which was actually a middle eastern neighborhood where I got orange soda..

Can you remember your oddest dreams?

Re: Your strangest dreams

Ah! Georgina, another one of our leaders, is an incredible dreamer. She has so many vivid ones!

I definitely do as well, but often they are not very positive and I don't like sharing them. However, I've had few gorgeous ones that I love.

One time, I was underwater with Georgina & it was very dreary. Everything was just grey and hazy. But as we walked through this sad ocean, we found pebbles and odd little colorful shells. Then, we noticed that one of the large rocks with dead coral had a shape that matched a shell we were carrying. When we fit it in, it immediately flooded with color and filled with life, illuminating that area! We bounced along the ocean floor, excitedly matching shells and rocks to the proper home, and made the entire ocean gorgeous!

Another one I had: I had the form of Daenerys from Game of Thrones, and I had to rescue this kitten. It had sapphire blue eyes and was the fluffiest, sweetest kitten I’d ever seen. For some reason, (beyond the fact that it was the cutest thing I’ve ever imagined) everyone wanted to steal the precious little cat. We traveled North speeding on a Ducati-like motorcycle. Instead of plastic, the outer part of the bike had dark dragon scales that glinted in the sun and would refract light like a prism. I remember my long, white hair looking like it was a thousand different colors as the rainbows scattered off the bike. The kitten would snuggle into my jacket and happily mew as we rode. I was surrounded by the purr of my cat and the purr of the dragon bike. Periodically, we would pull off to stop in a new land with striking, improbable landscapes. We’d eat and I’d give the kitten tons of kisses on its little pink nose, then run around chasing each other in the beautiful forests, mountains, sand, and fields. Then on we’d ride, moving forward and happy to just be together.

Re: Your strangest dreams

Hey ladies, I do dream analysis if you are every interested.....
Just some highlights for you.....

Angela, birthing healthy babies means you have just brought into life not one, but four ideas, projects, etc-amazing! I would think this probably has to do with your situation of late, and feeling some sense of completion and success with your Etsy endeavors.

Emily-the kitten would indicate young, or immature female spirituality, or powers. The fact that you rescued it, and then nurtured it so lovingly, means you are ready to start accepting the feminine side of your power. This would entail anything having to do with creating- becoming a mother, an artist; anything that nurtures and sows love in the world, or brings beauty. It could also mean you are perhaps beginning to feel comfortable in your own skin, showing the world who you are...

Re: Your strangest dreams

Angela - that's so interesting about your friend visiting the same town over and over again in a dream. I think that it is definitely possible that we can visit actual places in dreams... maybe by way of astral travel. I've been to this festival a couple times in lucid dreams where I've seen the most amazing living art. And my boyfriend just a few weeks ago said that he had been to a similar festival while in a lucid dream. And while he was there he talked to this girl that said that it was a place that some people go to in dreams..... While I was there I saw this very creepy little man that looked like he was right out of a David Lynch movie. He had these dark black eyes and just stared at me for a long time.

I was just listening to an interview about Phillip K. Dick and apparently he often incorporated his dreams into his books . Years later when he would look back at his writing he would realize that oftentimes the dreams he wrote about would actually take place in his life. He was dreaming his future.

Emily - oh wow. Those are beautiful dreams. Matching the shells and rocks together, making the dreary ocean beautiful again.... you unlocked the beauty within. that sounds like an amazing dream. So does the one with the little kitten. I wish I had more happy dreams like those. Mine are often not so positive too. Or just really creepy. I don't want to weird you guys out, haha.

Re: Your strangest dreams

Wow, Emily your dreams are very vivid! Do you ever find that they can come with smells as well? There have been times that I can literally smell something I'm dreaming about.

Kim--Dream analysis, that's awesome! I've often been scared to try and analyze my dreams. I feel like they'll signify some incoming catastrophe. I feel a little bit better about my babies dream now. I remember reading somewhere that birth meant death. I dream of being pregnant and giving birth often enough to be freaked out by it.

I use to dream about my ex cheating on me allllll the time and as it turned out, he was. So since that came to fruition I'm terrified by dreaming anything negative out of fear it could also be prophetic.

If you're interested, I started this blog. I really need to update it since I haven't in a really long time. I started to try and chronicle my dreams.

Re: Your strangest dreams

Kristina--I agree! It would be great if they weren't so random and to have some sort of control. Your festival dream, I refer to as 'party dreams'. I have those every so often and I wake up bummed when they're over. They often begin by my search for a portal to a specific location which is another dimension.

One that stands out to me is going through a portal located behind a pay phone down a corridor in a train station. I emerged in this city. It was a small city, dirty looking. Very grey but the vibe was positive and exiting.

The entire city was full of people all around my age and there was a definite sense of 'togetherness'. They all knew each other and did things as a community and tonight they were buzzing with excitement as their favorite band was performing.

Everyone was smiling and singing and chatting away as they all excitedly made their way toward the concert hall. They knew that I was an outsider and were keen to tell me all about the most incredible band in existence. A band called 'TITS'.

((My subconscious didn't find this as funny as my conscious 'mind in the gutter' self.))

Their energy was infectious and I couldn't help but have a blast. I saw the band perform and although I couldn't tell you what they sounded like because I woke up with no recollection I can tell you that they were indeed incredible and I enjoyed myself thoroughly.

Re: Your strangest dreams

Angela, it is very helpful to journal your dreams, daily. I started doing it years ago, and it helps with picking up recurring themes, problem solving, or just generally taking your mental "temperature", so to speak. LOVE your pay phone dream-it is incredible! I think you are highly psychic, and could really benefit from some insight and training to hone your skills, and become more aware, in waking time, not just dream time. (I think this about Georgie and Emily too! Creative people are highly sensitive to vibrations that most people are ignorant of; it helps us think outside the box, and explore our world in a more colorful way).

A train station (or bus terminal, airport terminal) is a place where the living can meet the dead, to carry messages to each other. I have often met my grandmother in a train station, in dreams. A phone is quite literally, the mode to speak with the dead. So, I believe that you did cross a portal, to one level of the other side, where there was much joy and celebration. Everyone was so happy to have this chance to educate you about the "band"-which would be a special group of people. The acronym is odd, but may have some deeper meaning just for you. Often in dreams, odd words will have great meaning, but it is not literal; sort of a "sounds like TITS", like when you play a game. You should meditate on that, as it is probably significant.

As you can see, I am very enthusiastic about dream interpretation! It is a great window into our souls, and so helpful in daily life. When I have time, I will post an incredible dream I had recently....in the meantime, keep track of your dreams, all of you!

Re: Your strangest dreams

I'm also really enthusiastic about dream interpretation, Kim! And I agree completely about the importance of journaling dreams. I have found that it helps me to remember dreams more often and I find common threads and themes that seem to be important. I think that it is our subconscious mind giving us clues. Journaling also helps me to become lucid more often because I will pick up on the themes while I'm dreaming.

I have found that I become lucid most often during the "party" dreams as you called them Angela. I have a lot of those! I think it may be because I live such a secluded life right now. :) I will always try to interact with people when I become aware ( or even when I'm not aware ) to see if they have anything to say. I recently had a girl give me this strange goo to eat.... she said that it would help to broaden my awareness.

Haha! A band called TITS. Maybe your subconscious mind just has a really good sense of humor. :)

That's interesting about the train station, Kim!! I've also thought about trains as being portals. I've become lucid a lot while traveling by train...and I will just sit and watch the surreal imagery flowing by.... I usually just try to observe when I become aware rather than trying to "control" the dream... more of a "mind revealing itself to itself" sort of thing. I have found that when I get too excited and start changing things around I will just end up waking myself up!

I'm really glad that you started this thread, Angela!! There's nothing I like more than talking about dreaming. :D

Re: Your strangest dreams

Kim: I've always had a suspicion that I may be an empath because I struggle just to keep my eyes open around people who feel extremes of negative emotion like anger or sadness. I've slept through so many heated arguments.

It was pretty much confirmed a few weeks ago. My Nana died a few Thursdays ago. From late August to early December she went from her apartment to hospital, to nursing home to hospital again and then finally hospice.

Her final trip to the hospital prior to sending her to the hospice she was placed on 'care and comfort' which meant keep her on heavy doses of morphine and ativan so that she doesn't panic or suffer. She was unconscious 99.9% of the time.

When I walked into the hospital room after they started her on care and comfort, I nearly fell over. It was the most startling sensation. Dizziness, I had an underwater sort of pressure in both of my ears and the floor had a sensation similar to walking on a trampoline. I kept stomping my foot expecting it to have a hollow sound just to ground myself. Nope. Solid. I had to leave the room.

I chalked it up to heights. We were on one of the top floors and the window is large, open and opposite the doors so the first thing you see is waaay down.

Once they moved my Nana to the hospice I visited with my 16 year old sister. We walked in and Again, *boom!* drunk! No height issue here. We were on the second floor and the curtains were drawn. After a minute or so my sister grabbed my arm and said 'can we go outside and sit down? I feel weird'. I felt instantly better once I left the room.

When we sat in the waiting room she told me that it felt like someone was pushing down on her head and she felt 'drunk'. We asked a few family members that were there if they'd felt anything 'odd'. The oxygen machine could have been vibrating the floor, perhaps? but they were all fine.

The fact that my sister felt the same thing solidified it for me. So we discussed it. We indeed had been experiencing the same sensations. We're not sure if we were feeling what Nana felt on the drugs or if since she was so close to passing she was giving off a certain energy...presence of deceased family to ease her passing?

Re: Your strangest dreams

Kim: Your interpretation makes a lot of sense. It would explain why I don't remember hearing any music but feeling like I'd had. Music is often such a therapeutic thing. I had a great portal dream where Raiden from mortal kombat was making a bunch of us (again peers) who'd found the portal, burgers at a backyard BBQ. The yard was ethereally beautiful.

This portal could only be found by jumping off this wooden platform thing in the middle of a massive wheat field. It looked just like this but not nearly as tall: http://cdn.calisphere.org/affiliates/images/cana/kt2199p9w7/hi-res/P6280.jpg

I'd love to hear about your recent dream! I'm coming to find that they can be so significant in setting the tone for your everyday.

Re: Your strangest dreams

Kristina; You're right. It's time to start up the old dream journal again. Do you share your journal online? I'd love to have a read :)

That's amazing that you can become lucid! It's not an easy feat. On the few occasions that I've managed, I wake right up. Do you have any techniques that you use to keep more control?

If you don't mind me asking, do you live a secluded life by choice or location? I'm in New York and there's a ubiquitous tension in the air--I guess from all them bodies and brains. It makes me admittedly less social. It's exhausting lol

I can definitely see dreams being prophetic. Sometimes I wish it weren't true since I have some terrible recurring ones. It's hard to pin point the ones to be mindful of and the others that meant you ate something you shouldn't have too close to sleep.

I'm really happy about this thread too! I had no idea that there was so much more to dreaming. It's great to learn that we have similar experiences--You've certainly filled in a lot of blanks for me that I didn't think were actually fillable.

Re: Your strangest dreams

This thread is awesome! We just moved into our apartment a few days ago and I've been busy organizing and building things, so I haven't had much time to check in!

Kim, very interesting analysis! I definitely like it! I haven't pursued much in terms of dream analysis, there are so many interesting things in the world- I wish I had time to study them all! I love that you think I might be psychic :-D I could see that about Georgie, that's for sure. I think I am powerful in my own right, but I haven't figured out what it is or how to channel it. I try to keep reading on different subjects and see what speaks to me. I haven't found it quite yet. And Angela, I totally understand about the sensitivity. I tend to shut down when people are getting negative or yelling because I feel so overwhelmed by the energy in the room. And I also have to be careful of when I go out in large spaces- sometimes I just can't handle it.

I'm like Kristina, most of my dreams are rather negative (mainly friends or family dying in very realistic ways like cancer or a car crash) so I haven't really looked into the analysis. I often thing it is pretty clear- I am afraid of the people I love dying! But when I have these grand dreams (which I have been having more lately), I do love them. Perhaps we should all start dream journals like Angela and get our opinions on them! I am terrible at keeping up with those sorts of things, though.

I don't lucid dream very much. I did have one recently where I realized I was dreaming and I enjoyed it greatly. It was very beautiful- I was walking down Venice beach and came to an apartment I had almost rented. There was a loved one who came out and surprised me, saying they had rented the place for a month. Then they began to cry, but I comforted them and took them to this impossibly beautiful beach. The sand grains were so white that they refracted light. The water was a clear and beautiful blue, which was filled with brightly colored fish. The sky was incredible purples, oranges, and reds as we watched the sun set. Then night fell and we could see the milky way and the infinite stars. At some point, I realized it wasn't real because this place was clearly a fantasy, but I just enjoyed it and kissed them passionately all night!

Re: Your strangest dreams

Yes, becoming lucid is definitely a feat and one that I don't achieve nearly as often as I'd like. I have found that it takes a balance of both control and a sort of detached observation... in Carlos Casteneda's books he is always talking about finding your hands in dreams.... look at your hands and hold the image, don't let it change. When we dream the images are usually blurry and then changing from one thing to the next. By looking at your hands and holding the image, you anchor your consciousness in the dream, and then you can observe.

I do a variation of this... I never remember to look at my hands... I have a few times found my reflection in a mirror and held onto the exact image of myself as I am in reality. And this has really anchored me in the dream. But I also think that it works with anything you are looking at... hold the image, don't let it change into something else. This is hard to do because usually our first instinct is to become excited and then say yay! I'm dreaming, I can fly now! But this doesn't anchor us in the dream and will usually just wake you up.

If you are already a vivid dreamer, which it sounds like you are Angela, and Emily too, I think lucid dreaming may be something that can become natural with some practice. Another thing you can do is throughout the day ask yourself "am I dreaming?" This can then cause you to ask yourself that while you are dreaming too. Journaling also helps, as I mentioned earlier, because you will start to recognize common themes that will help you to realize you are dreaming.

I don't share my journal online... yet. I think that's really cool that you do Angela! It would be neat if we all started sharing to get opinions. The next dream I have that isn't too weird, scary or sad, I'll share it here. haha!

Emily, your dreams seem to definitely reflect your creativity! It sounds like you create some beautiful landscapes to explore.

Oh yes, I am right on the same page with you guys about shutting down around negative energy. I will go completely cold and start shivering when in a highly negative situation. I am very sensitive to people's energy... which is why I live a secluded life in the forest. I lived in the city before this, and yes, the tension is exhausting! I much prefer to be alone with trees.... and my cats. :)

Re: Your strangest dreams

Ok, last night I had a dream that Brad Pitt kidnapped me to be a part of their family, and my family had to come rescue me. He desperately wanted me to be one of his daughters, really odd. At one point during the escape, there was a car flipped over in the road. The person was still in it, along with their animals. I was able to get his three dogs and his cat out and walk them around while the ambulance came to help the human.

WEIRD DREAM.

Wow! That is weird. Really funny though. I like that through the abduction and escape you still stopped to help the animals.
