Introduce Yourself!

It occurred to me that providing a space for new members to introduce themselves would be a good idea...then it occurred to me that even members who have been a part of this group might like to say a bit about themselves.

So, a brief intro, preferably with a link to your About page (if you've got one). Feel free to post one or two other links here for people to explore, a Blog, Facebook page or Twitter etc.

I'll start:

I graduated from the University of Hertfordshire in 1996 with a BA Hons in Design Representation (Modelmaking). Coming from a family of 'sew and sews', 'knitwits' and modelmakers, I seem to have picked up a few skills here and there. I am also a Live Roleplayer, a trained Montessori Directress and a Reiki Teacher Practitioner (with the UKRF) but of late, aside from a few Reiki clients and an interest in personal development and Tai Chi, I'm mostly busy being a mum and getting involved in Steampunk. My creative impulse has re-awakened and now I'm doing the cliche: making stuff on my dining room table out of bits and bobs and inspirations.

Hi!

My name is Lauren and I am an illustrator.
I graduated in 2007 with a BA (Hons) in Illustration then proceeded to hone my skills whilst working as a design and performance technician in a senior school.

That all changed about a year ago when I was offered a positions at Serif in Nottingham as a Creative Illustrator for Daisytrail.com - this was a dream job for me however it also meant moving away from my husband and my home to do it. So after 10 brilliant months with the team I moved back home and now work for them remotely on a freelance basis. :)

I originally opened my shop years ago but had no success, it wasn't till last November I decided to have another go at it and get more involved with the Etsy community

My artwork is my life - a day rarely goes by when I'm not working on some project (much to the frustration of my Husband). I can't just sit and do *nothing* I'm always drawing/ making something - usually this is steampunk/ victorian inspired but I also love fantasy and burlesque imagery.

I have a 5 yeard old tuxedo cat named Neko who liked to keep me company whilst I work (usually by sitting on my hands)

Hello all ! *Wow, didn't realize I'd written so much !

I'm a mixed media assemblage/altered/collage artist since toddlerhood :)
It's strange thinking back to those little years and just how much art I made that I didn't know was called mixed media - sand candles with embedded rocks & shells, God's Eyes ( yarn continuously wrapped around two crossed sticks, bits of nature attached along the way ), burning designs into wood using the sun and a magnifier, then painting and glittering. Plastic raspberry crate earrings, ripped and painted shirts and so much more.
You could say I was a Goth in high school 80s and then early 90s. Big into the New-Wave music ( Gary Numan, Kraftwerk, Japan, The Cure, etc...). One year of visual arts college.
Married in '89, son in '95. My art continued and much of it was a mix of Victorian and whimsical. A couple of craft fairs.
I once sold on eBay but moved to Etsy in '07.
My art wavered off and on after mom's passing in '08. Moving to a new house, moments of feeling blue, losing trust over the changes in shipping <-- that was a big deal. No more insurance on small packet items, really screwed my trust levels and so I had to really rethink my art.
After a few years, lots of deep thinking about myself, my self-esteem and life in general, my wings began to unfold again. What a fantastic feeling when you get to that point where you no longer have that shoulder weight, that self consciousness hounding you, etc... Yay !
So from there I began re-noticing things I'd put behind - and I also have our son to thank for it was watching his video games and hearing his type of music that I too really enjoyed.
Today Im what you might call an ' elder goth ' except my style isn't goth 24/7. I've always leaned towards the ' odder side of life ' and those who enjoy dressing differently from everyone else. The funny thing though: my dear husband is the complete opposite. He was navy for over 20 years so his out of uniform clothing are plain 'ol jeans and tshirts. And we work well together :)
Love industrial/cyberpunk/dark/hardstyle/techno/epic soundtrack music too. If not that then it's ambiant/nature sounds ( check out myNoise for some pretty wonderful soundscapes - spaceship, plane, factory, clockwork and more ).
As for what I create today: well I've recently changed my shop name from RainshineWhimsy to TheSolitaryRaven.
I was called ' cute ' too many times and grew to dislike it. My art was intended to be whimsical yet so often it was called cute and I'd quietly cringe. The shop name became a nose wrinkler to me, so I opted for something more to who I am ( plus huge LOVE for ravens ).
So now I'm trying to create pieces that are a bit more serious, more to what I use to love and am now wanting to try. Horror, fantasy, weird/odd/humorous.
Well there you go :)

Oh, I'm also a big Walking Dead fan, weird movies, sashimi & yam tempura lover, coffeeholic, raven caller, flower grower, petter of bumble bees, bug saver, distracted by sparkly things/hardware/old junk.

Hi everyone!!

I'll be brief ;) I'm a senior fashion designer based in Madrid (Spain), specialised in leather design, lingerie and corset making. In fact, corsets is what I love the most. I'm really interested in gothic subculture, horror movies, burlesque apparel, post punk, illustration (I draw just for fun and also create prints and patterns) and cats (I live with two super lovely furballs).

Hello everyone, my name is Alessandra and although I've lived in the US for the past 19 years, I'm originally from Italy.
I'm an artist (well visual originally, trying to getting back to painting this coming up year) and a jewelry designer.
I like working with a variety of media. Although I love metalsmithing, sometimes it can be a handful, so I still make chain and beaded jewelry, vintage assemblage and anything vintage inspired. My looks span from the Victorians to the 1930s and everything in between.

I thought I should take this opportunity to briefly introduce myself.

My name is David Barrows and I'm a freelance graphic designer living in middle england, what spare time I have is spent working on personal projects some of which eventually see the light of day.

Influences are wide and varied but can be distilled into a single quote from the french painter and sculptor Jean DuBuffett:
'I deny that there are beautiful colours, beautiful shapes and others that are not. I am convinced that any object, any place, without distinction, can become a key of enchantment for the mind according to the way one looks at it and the associations of ideas to which one links it.'

As Etsy advise joining a team I searched through a multitude until I came upon this one which not only has a beguiling name but appears to be full of genuinely creative and talented individuals.
