Cat on lap...can't move!

I'm trapped, but in a good way. Abby is on my lap, purring like crazy. I can barely reach the keyboard to type because I have to sit way back to give her room!

haha There must be a name for that condition.
I wish I could have a cat at work.

Re: Cat on lap...can't move!

I wish I could have a cat at work too. My husband has started to use the "I can't get out of bed because Cleo is sleeping on me" excuse. (He's a teacher on vacation until tomorrow.) He says she gets up to play when I leave but around 830 comes back to bed with him and uses her "magic sleepy powers" to make him fall back asleep again. Oh what a life.

None of our cats have been lap cats but they find their own ways to express their love and demand attention.

She left, and now she's BACK! I'm going to have to get some coffee (problem: can't get up!) before she uses her Magic Sleepy Powers on me... Don't you love going into a store where there's a resident/working cat? There's a florist nearby who has a big fluffy cat in the store, and the two times I've had to go in there, I've been completely distracted!

Oh yes, there is a garden shop in a tourist town nearby with a magnificent orange tabby, Abner. Sometimes my whole purpose is to visit him.

Re: Cat on lap...can't move!

Abner sounds wonderful! We picked up some cat food at the vet's office a few days ago and I made my husband come in so he could see their newest working kitty -- a "true tabby" that I've since learned is a Classic American Tabby (this team or another...). Anyway, "Stuart" is INCREDIBLY cute and very outgoing. He likes to chew zippers, it appears. Too bad we're going to change vets, because I'm going to have to come up with some other excuse to visit Stuart.

It's really cold here, so I suspect I was being used as a "heating pad." Bob paid me a visit a while ago, too.

Hmmm... perhaps if we deprive them of the fireplace they will use us as heating pads.....

We don't have a fireplace -- maybe that's why I'm so popular!

Re: Cat on lap...can't move!

We have a gas fireplace so we are ALL spoiled since I just have to flip a switch. The only lap time we get is at night because Cleo likes to sleep on the bed with us.

They also adore the space heater in our master bedroom, it's a sun disk. We joke they are praying to the sun god. That only comes on when it's really really cold, well really cold for CA.

Bob and Abby want me to run out and get them a space heater, but I said no. I'd become obsolete!

Re: Cat on lap...can't move!

Every night when it's cold my head barely hits the pillow before the first cat jumps on top of me. They wait under the bed. One by one they jump up and find their favorite spots with some growling and batting. Some under the covers on a specific side or the other, some beside me. One or two on my pillow. One or two on my chest. I have eight little heaters. We keep each other warm, but I'm afraid I'm getting some arm and hand nerve problems from the weird way I have to hold my arms when I sleep!

Re: Cat on lap...can't move!

CatnipHill, your bed must be toasty! Ah yes, nerve problems -- can't disturb the kitties! I had that happen when Abby was sitting on my lap for the third time yesterday... my right leg started to get that tingly feeling, so I tried to shift her weight. Unpopular move!
