Cat boarding needed for up to 6 months--help/advice needed!

I haven't been much in the forum since I signes I signed up due to a very bad behaved lap top and now I can't even find my old posts...........

Anyway, it looks like my husband will go abroad on a buisness trip for up to 6 months. It seems like I will have to go with him. I am very stressed and concerned about what to do with our 3 years old Maine Coon. She gets very stressed even by a 10 min. drive (breathing with her mouth open, meowing like crazy and pees. She has peed on herself every time we have went for a ride.) I would love more than anything to take her with us, we both love her so much and I can't bear the thought of giving her away, (which would mean returning her to Humane Society where we adopted her from.) But I am very worried the plain trip to Brazil would be too much for her, as she also would travel as cargo (I assume) .

My question is what can I do? Are there any families or pet sitters that can take care of a cat for this long period of time? If so where would I look? We live in Maryland.
Have anyone been in a similar situation?

Agnes (my cat) is , normally a very easy going cat and loves people and adjusts rather easily to people and places.

If my husband will go , we will leave in the end of August allready.

Poor thing ...

Do you have any family or friends who could take care of Agnes while you're away? That would be the best thing to do. I can't imagine a boarding house taking in a cat for that long, and if they do it probably costs a ton of money.

Sadly we don't know that many people. We are also looking into boarding possibilities in our area.

Hi! I actually own and operate a boarding kennel that caters just to felines and have been in business for 16 years.

Long-term boarding shouldn't be a problem, but you most certainly want to find a licensed place with large rooms, plenty of light, very clean, good people that you and Agnes feel comfortable with and also one that requires full vaccinations. I'll convo you with a link to my website (I live in Maine, but it can give you an idea of what to look for and questions to ask).

Agnes should do just fine once she settles in. My boarders stay 4-5 months and are incredibly happy. It's hard to see them go home after 5 months of love and snuggles!

By the way, two of my boarders actually went to live in Paris with their mom for 6 months. They got to ride in the plane under the seat and had a wonderful time. So travel is doable as well.

Best of luck, Faith

When we brought our nervous dog back from Hawaii, the vet prescribed a sedative for him so he'd conk out on the plane. By the time he woke up he was here.

Yes, a vet we spoke to suggested giving her a sedative, but it will "only" work for 8 hr. The flight to Brazil is much longer, so I am not sure...........
