Web Forms and Confirmation Emails

I made my website using Dreamweaver CS3 and my host is LunarPages. I also run a site for an organization and I use Dreamweaver as well but they host with GoDaddy.

My question applies to the site that's hosted on GoDaddy, although I don't know if the host really matters. I created a webform for people to submit simple information to sign up for events. They just enter their name, email, and other relevant info and submit the form, and then I get an email with all the information they entered.

I'd like to be able to send the user an email after they submit the form which confirms that their form information was submitted and shows them what they entered. That way they can make sure they entered everything correctly and they also know their information was received.

Anyone know how to do this? Thanks for any help!

Re: Web Forms and Confirmation Emails

Try googling "send confirmation email php".

The secret there is the PHP part, and yes the host does matter. You need to have a host that supports PHP. Not all do.

If you want to have the message styled at all (which is a nice touch) you will need to use html, and that gets a little more complicated.

Also try googling "php send html email".

If you need more info, please feel free to convo me. I am not on these forums all the time.

Re: Web Forms and Confirmation Emails

Thanks Barry, I'll definitely look into that. So far I was only finding info about how to email myself the information from the form, which I've already got working. Also, I've found GoDaddy to be very limiting in what they allow for their form mailers. I appreciate the info and I'll definitely convo you if I need more help! Thanks so much!

Re: Web Forms and Confirmation Emails

Actually, you could have the email sent to both you and to the sender. This can take a little work, particularly if you are dealing with a pre-defined form.

And then there is the godaddy problem.

By all means, do let me know if I can help further.

Re: Web Forms and Confirmation Emails

PS Before you just send back what gets sent to you, you should check that it is a valid submission, including the email address. Spammers love to target forms and fill them with junk. You could wind up generating a lot of junk mail yourself.

Re: Web Forms and Confirmation Emails

I would suggest using www.mailchimp.com it is free for up to 2000 people and it has an automated conformation email.

You can just embed the application into your website with copy and paste of html

Re: Web Forms and Confirmation Emails

Isn't mailhimp - like constant contact - for bulk mailing newsletters? Not an individual reply to a form on a website?
