Best way to get clear white background?

Hi

I am keen to improve my photos. I want to get a clear white background but am unsure how best to do this. Have experimented with white sheets and paper but not got the effect I like yet.

Does anyone have any tips?

Is it worth buying a light tent,or is there an easier/cheaper way?

Any ideas much appreciated, thanks so much.

Vicki

Re: Best way to get clear white background?

I just tried fotofuze.com and it does a decent job if your item has fairly smooth edges. What's nice is that it can import your current Etsy photos and once you're happy with the edits, it will publish back directly to your Etsy listings.
Good luck!

Ha! I never thought of looking up online for such a tool. I am usually spending insane amounts of time trying to fix my photos in Lightroom, creating masks by hand, etc. I might try this next time! Thank you Julie! :)

Well... I guess my hopes were a bit too high about this tool. It is not an option for someone that is looking for high quality results. It was interesting to try it out though :)

Re: Best way to get clear white background?

Hi Silver Floret,
I have just tried foto fuze and I think it can be helpfull if you don't have better... It makes my photos even less sharper and I find them desperatly not sharp enough :-(
How do you manage to have nice bright and sharp pictures as you have ?
I use natural light and here in Belgium the sky is grey most of the time and the light is changing every 15 mn dramatically ! I think I use high quality camera in the most beginner way .... ;-)
Do you manually enhance different parts of one picture in Lightroom for having this result ?
I'm going to take a look at Darktable witch is an equivalent of Lightroom, if you have any "receipes", please let me know :-)
Laurence.

Re: Best way to get clear white background?

If nothing else "http://fotofuze.com" has help me clear up all of my photo's it was a lot of work but it was worth the few sales I got right way on items I have had in my shop for 2 years now...-) I'm happy with it.

Re: Best way to get clear white background?

I tried this option but it's making my photos look too dreaming and not working well. If I went with this, I'd have to redo taking all my images to see if I can get a sharper image. But thanks for suggesting it!

Re: Best way to get clear white background?

One con with using Fotofuze is that if you don't have your item highlighted precisely, it leaves unsightly dark marks so you have to be super careful. If it works out though, it can produce a high quality result. Thank you for the suggestion
