Efficient way to get noticed

Hey all,

I don't have a lot of excess time to work on promoting my shop and I want to make sure that the time that I do spend is well used. Do you guys have any advice on the best way to get my shop noticed?

Well, one quick thing - For your toques, be sure you've got "cap" in there somewhere for your U.S. customers. "Hat" is okay, but don't leave out cap - usually used for headwear that gets pulled down onto the head (like a stocking cap) instead of sitting on top (like a cowboy hat).

Re: Efficient way to get noticed

secondary is right

also. you should take a minute to list something at least once a week if not everyday. I know that takes time. but if you make little dodads... like crocheted flowers for paper crafts, it may not be so hard.

also, look at how fellow crocheted sellers are photographing. You'll see a lot are doing bright white backgrounds, etc. You'll fit in with those people selling daily more and you take a little piece of their business too

anyone else have ideas?

Also, make sure you use all of your tags. This is how people will find you on etsy, so you want to use every one available to you.

I would also suggest putting your dimensions in inches and cm in all of your listings.

Your stroller quilt (looks almost like a circular fan pattern) is beautiful. I would really suggest retaking the photos in front of a white backdrop in order to better show it off.

Re: Efficient way to get noticed

I get a lot more views on items initially when I post them on weekend afternoons than any other time. I figure with work and other obligations, most people aren't checking to see recently posted items during the week. I'm just starting out so I've been researching similar concerns to yours, even tags as simple as the color of an item can broaden the range of your scope. Also some people have had problems when pluralizing and item in their tags, the example mentioned stated searching for "ear cuff" will merit more results than "ear cuffs"

Just somethings I've picked up along the way, hope it helps!

Re: Efficient way to get noticed

One method I'm trying out lately is to visit with teams, forums and blogs. If you leave a comment that's thoughtful, helpful and insightful people are likely to click on your shop. Also, perusing peoples' blogs (if they have them) and leaving meaningful comments with a link to your Etsy shop at the bottom of your message is also another way to appeal to your niche market (i.e. I make photograph charms that women in their 20s seem to love, so if I leave comments on fashion blogs it generally sends ladies who love nifty things my way).

Also make sure to have a Facebook page and a Twitter account - for some reason they really up my views!

Re: Efficient way to get noticed

I have a facebook page, but am having a hard time getting fans on it. Do you have any suggestions?

I have actually started participating in BNS and BNRs and found it gets me more views, but these are great ideas as well

Re: Efficient way to get noticed

Amanda - on FB I've started by letting my friends know through my 'personal' page that it's there. You can also leave links to your Facebook page in forums and teams and ask people if they would 'like' you on FB. That generally has a good response, and builds your network of crafty people sitting on computers who might see your latest listings.

You could also host or team up with a blogger to do a 'giveaway' which would require people to 'like' your facebook page and 'favorite' your etsy shop or whatever else you tell them to do! If you do this, I suggest the prize being a gift certificate to your shop and not an actual item.

Also, if you comment on peoples blogs and there's a space to put your website you can alternate putting your etsy shop url and your Facebook page url in there so that you get various kinds of exposure.

Food for thought! :)

Re: Efficient way to get noticed

I run face book page at work - if you want to increase your fans a giveaway will do that , but you need to make sure you set one up that lasts for at least a week and keep posting it at least once a day - eg 'like this item and be entered to win it, this ends on 6th june.... etc. And then the next day count down (only 6 days left...) Announce the winner at the end and when you contact them ask them to kindly post on your page when they recieve the item and review it... this all helps.

Re: Efficient way to get noticed

Spread out when you post new items, don't post them all at once, if you can post a couple items a day for a week one in the afternoon, one at night you'll stay in the top of your category since Etsy displays by most recently listed unless otherwise checked.
