So how low is too low?

One hint for new sellers that I see over and over again on etsy is to NEVER underprice your items. If your price is too low, then customers might think that your product is of inferior quality and move on to the next seller.

Is this the only threat for having items that are priced too low?

If you were to type into the search bar, for example, tampon holders, you would find some of my items on the first or second page of results. That's where I prefer my items to be because that's simply where I usually do my own shopping. I don't really want to spend more than I have to and trust that most other people feel the same...

Right? ._.

Re: So how low is too low?

You are right - if an item is priced too low, I automatically assume that it is cheaply made. I try to stay in between and have to keep my items priced as low as possible because I live in Utah (the handmade state) so everyone makes stuff, but they usually use cheap (plastic) beads instead of stones.

Re: So how low is too low?

Hi, I joined last November took alot of etsy advice revamped my shop and finally just had my 1st sale :).... I know I have higher priced items and thought about lowering them to "sell" but I'm glad I found this team. I put alot of time and quality in to each of my pieces and hate to lower them at all. Advice?

You have a lot of super pretty items, SandyNewhartDesigns. Unfortunately, pricing items is something that I'm struggling with, too.

And pinksjewelz, your work is absolutely stunning. :) I will have to keep an eye on your shop.

For me, I'll admit that the materials for my items aren't very expensive at all...I favor acryllic yarn because it's easy to care for and comes in such a wide variety of colors-it also happens to be very inexpensive. And...I don't wanna charge people a boatload of money for something that I just genuinely enjoy making, ya know?

Re: So how low is too low?

I have had a few sales since opening my shop in January and all of them are custom orders. I am hoping to continue the sales but i know I need improvements on items. I also am not sure on pricing and keep trying to figure out if I should be lowering prices or raising. If you have any advice please review my shop and let me know. If I made sales on my items in my store I would get a better idea but all orders have been custom including local so I don't know if I need to change anything.

Re: So how low is too low?

CreationsbyCazzy, those are pretty good! Can I ask how you package your items? My husband is a mad wizard with his dremel and will do glass etching occassionally, but is reluctant to sell them online, for fear that they'll just break.

I think that your prices are reasonable, too. Especially if you're purchasing glass that is thick enough and of good enough quality to not shatter while etching them.

Re: So how low is too low?

CreationsbyCazzy, I think the prices you have listed are fair. They didn't strike me as too high or too low to make me question quality or anything else. I think the fact that people are asking for custom work reflects people's opinion that the prices/quality seem to be balanced.

My store is very new and I totally understand the agony over pricing. I ran through many pricing scenarios, researched comparable products, and ultimately ended up pricing at more of the middle of the road. I am pretty new to the paper cutting art world and hope with time will gain name recognition to help boost sales and pricing for my more elaborate pieces. My plan is to sell some product at some local art shows at the same prices, this may help me determine if I am on target or not. Also I made the decision to provide pieces at a variety of price levels. I hope to add some more product soon! I know one of the key factors is just getting your shop viewed! Any feedback would be welcome!

Re: So how low is too low?

Zudzukki Thanks for the feedback. With my packaging, I package like crazy. Tissue paper, bubble wrap and peanuts. No room for movement. I also did a test ship with someone who earned a free item through my referral program just to make sure that shipping went ok. I have shipped to the east coast also and they had no problems. Good luck!
Amy, Thanks for your feedback, hopefully I can continue more online sales. You have beautiful items, I didn't realize how detailed you can get cutting paper. Good job! I'm sure the sales will come. Good luck!
