Critique the shop above!

I saw this idea from another team and thought it was fantastic! All you have to do is critique the shop above you--you can include:

1) What is the shop above you doing really well?
2) What can they improve to make their shop better?

And anything else you feel like adding...that way you get critiqued while critiquing someone else! It is a great way to get some insight on your store and help each other out!

BebeDivaWear~ cute items, nice descriptions, good prices. I really like the black and white photos with the colored headbands. It makes the headbands really stand out but you can still see how they'd look being worn. Can't see anything I'd change. THe items with the colored outdoorsy background don't stand out as well but are an interesting way to display them.

@beeblecat~I like your shop and love your cause. The cats in the photos are adorable, but I'm not sure the photo quality is doing them justice. The prints were much easier to see. All very cute (and that's coming from a dog person).

KRAYVNaturals: Your site is very soothing...even without the ability to enjoy all the yummy scents. Your color scheme is neutral and very calming. And your site is easy to navigate since you only have three sections. I'm not a soap gal, but I do try to use natural products and am impressed with your hand-crocheted washclothes. I've never seen that before. My great grandmother used to crochet little pull-tie baggies in fun shapes (fish, bird..) to put the soap in for the shower...it lathered really well and kept the soap from slipping all around. =)

Very cute drawings! The photos have a very uniform feel, which is great. The only thing I would suggest is really highlighting that you do custom work. It is such a great keepsake to, for example, get a custom picture that looks like your child. Perhaps you could mention it in the shop announcement?

smkdesigns-I Think your work is beautiful! Love all the color...i'm a color girl myself...the only thing i can think of is that some of the photos are a little dark...and the color of the lighting changes...i speak especially of the ones that seem to have a white background that slopes up behind the piece? sometimes with the banister piece as prop? they seem dim, sometimes mauve, sometimes taupe-ish...it would be better/ more consistent if all 5 in the listing were the same hued color...not sure if i'm saying this right...but i really did like the pics with the dark leather, studded? as background...made the colors pop and the silver glow

I love your stuff. I too am a person of color, bright colors that is. I am pretty new to this so don't know a whole lot. The only thing I can really critique in your shop are the photos. It seems there are so many products on Etsy that are so well photographed. (definitely quite a few of my clothing shots need alot of work cause I did them very quickly) ............and photos for me often seem to make or break a product. Maybe you could move furniture around so you don't see stuff sitting behind the crip, for example. Also take photos from a different angle. Crouch down to the height of the bed when taking your shot instead of from the normal standing position.

I like your story about your son. Maybe you could tell it in a shorter more concise way as so many people might not take the time to read it which would be too bad. What do you think?

Yes, that's been the consensus so far on the bed shots...needs work, am trying to brainstorm and gather ideas...the profile...thanks for the comment...sometimes i get wordy...it could make people skim...but i also think that many of the shops on etsy are very short and to the point...like this and buy it now on impulse...rather than falling in love with the story...am i making sense? the difference between reading a comic strip in the paper vs. a good book? Will take a deep look at it and try to edit tho...thank you

Sorry I really need to comment on your shop. I think your photos are really great. There is a blog out there explaining a bit about SEO on Etsy. It says that the description of each item is one of or THE most important thing sellers can do to help search engines find you. Your descriptions do not follow these rules. You need to tell buyers and the search engines what your product is in the first few words of a description. Many or most of your descriptions do not tell us what it is. Is it an earring? This is often not clear. I can't find the blog I found but I think if you look around Etsy you'll find it. Simple explanation, easy to make changes, and really essential.

I'm by no means at all an expert, I'm pretty new to all this and I really like your shop, your banner, your pictures are great, bright, crisp. I had advice when I first started to use white background and I think it was the best advice that I received. Especially when the items are so colorful. The flow and consistency also looks great! I noticed your intro is to the point which I've read also is a great way to get noticed I know I do have to change mine. I myself like ALOT of color in my items ......I think you did a great job.

Sandy! I really like your shop! Your floral arrangements are BEAUTIFUL!! Very bright and colourful, it made me feel really happy to visit your site! I like your banner, and that your profile picture is an item you've made. I think that's a great way to advertise, instead of just having a photo of oneself. I like your items against the white background, I think it really makes them pop! I also really like your descriptions, they are very thorough and well thought out. I really can't think of something I didn't like. So well done!! :)

Atlas - I love your shop - the birds are beautiful - absolutely gorgeous! I also really like your banner - I am definitely no expert, but I think a few of your fabric rings get lost against the background... maybe a bit more of a closeup on them? Everything is absolutely beautiful although =]

cselib! First of all, I absolutely love your product. All of your jewelry is beautiful! Also, Your photos are SO GREAT! My suggestion for that would be to use ALL of your photo ops... Like show it on a person's wrist perhaps? Also, I think it might be good if you used the oppurtunity to have sections, like have bracelets in one, earrings in another, etc--that way a potential buyer looking for something specific can find what they are looking for faster. It looks like you are doing great for yourself. My only other suggestion is to use an avatar that reflects what is in your shop...I have looked at a lot of shops just by seeing a cute piece in someone's avatar (Although that rainbow is quite beautiful and cheerful!) Anyway, well done-- I'm brand new, so I would say take everything I say with a grain of salt. :-)

oh! And I was also going to say about photos...you could use some of those extra "slots" as a place to promote other pieces, like...you could have a necklace shown with earrings that would make a great pairing--just make sure you state in the description what the listing is actually for. okay....now I'm done. Keep up the awesome work!

Simpatica--I absolutely love everything about your shop. Your stuff is super adorable and your pictures are an accurate representation and shows different views. Your store is really inviting and warm--The pricing is pretty reasonable as well. Your tiles are beautiful but just a bit confusing as how it ties into your head pieces. All your other items are for the head and then you have these tiles. I see that you do have sections and that one is for them home--maybe you can expand the home section of your shop?
