Welcome

Hi there,

Welcome to your team's own personal forum! This is your place to facilitate constructive communication within the team. It can serve as your team's main discussion hub, or a place where you post announcements every so often. You must follow the http://www.etsy.com/policy/dosdonts#community_forums_chat_vl'>Etsy Forum guidelines when posting in the Teams Forum, and make sure that you are familiar with the http://www.etsy.com/policy/dosdonts#community_teams_archive'>Teams DO's and DON'Ts.

Even though teams are run by volunteer members of the community, all of Etsy's site policies still apply to team members and activities. However, Team Forums are moderated by the team leadership, not by Etsy Admin. Check out our http://help.etsy.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/340'>Forum Moderation Guide to learn how Team Forums should be governed.

Although you can chose whether a post is public (viewable by anyone logged in to Etsy) or private (visible only to team members), please consider the Team Forums as public spaces and remember to treat one another with respect.

Now it's time to start talking with your team!

Best,

Re: Welcome

Hi Team,

My name is Pat Siler and I live in Murphy, NC, as far west as you can get in NC. I have 4 Etsy sites and am a full time potter which keeps me more than busy. I wasn't born in the mountains, but I got here as fast as I could! I originate from Asheboro, NC, located in the center of the state. Once our kids were grown, we sold the farm, downsized drastically, and moved west. We love it here. We went from hectic jobs to working for ourselves and exhibit in 25 pottery shows a year. Needless to say, we are busy, busy, but we wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. We live on less and love it.

My other sites are
Back Creek Designs at http://www.epsiler.etsy.com where I sell mosty craft supplies and quilts. Quilting was my first passion before I found clay.
Smoky Mountain Vintage located at http://www.smokymountainvintage.etsy.com is where I continue to downsize and sell family heirlooms and flea market finds
My newest and hopefully last shop is Smoky Mountain Kitchen at http://www.smokymountainkitchen.etsy.com. This is my kitchen shop. My family spent many fun loving hours in the kitchen growing up. IHere is where I am sharing treasured family recipes and all sorts of kitchen items, from vintage kitchen to linens.
Back Creek Clay is my pottery site located at http://www.backcreekclay.etsy.com. Pottery has taken over our lives. This is the dream job I never knew I wanted until I moved to the mountains.

Thanks for inviting me to the team.

I will have my other sites join. I love doing treasuries and will include you in them along with my friends from the Smoky Mountain Treasury Team.

Pat

Re: Welcome

Though I live in Canada's capital city, Ottawa, my craft of basket-making follows what I believe are Appalachian traditions. I am primarily self-taught in my basket-making, and my styles reflect the English tradition of basket-making (stake and strand as in my sewing baskets) and what I call the Appalachian traditions as seen in my rib baskets and my market baskets. I freely combine the English and Appalachian traditions in some of my specialty baskets.

One of my fondest memories is the time I spent several years ago in the Earth Guild store in Ashville (?), NC, a great source for all things basketry. It was accidental that we were there. We had been on vacation on the Carolina coast, but had to move inland to escape hurricane Ophelia.

Many of the books I use as inspiration for my craft are made by Appalachian authors.

Thank you for inviting me to your team.
My family and I left the big city 14yrs ago, for the rural life in the mountains
of SouthWestern BC (Canada). We've never looked back. Nature has always been my inspiration and mentor.
I look forward to getting to know you all.

Re: Welcome

Really good to meet you guys!
I've lived in eastern Kentucky all of my life. Right now I am mostly working with polymer clay, although I've dabbled in several crafts more indicative to Appalachia like basket-weaving and jewelry making. I love nature - hiking, having picnics, and recently geocaching.
Can't wait to get to know you all!

Katie

Sidenote - I am in loooove with Asheville, NC - don't know how close to there you are, but what a beautiful area. All of my experiences with NC have been great.

Thank you for inviting me to join the team! I live in Dahlonega. GA. not far from Springer Mountain, the approach trail for the Appalachian Trail. I started making soap, candles, lip balms, body products as a hobby and for relaxation from my day job. I have a couple of small local shops that carry my products but thought I would try Etsy as well. I have to say that I have found myself drawn more to candle making lately, I love working with soy and experimenting with new scents.

Thank you for inviting me to join the team! I live in Rutledge,Tn one of the oldest towns in East Tn.Before moving here I grew up in Knoxville Tn(on the outskirts in the country). When Knoxville started urbanizing and all the farms were being developed we ran for the hills, so to speak, and ended up in beautiful Rutledge.I have been drawing and painting since I can remember and am solely self taught.I love painting my memories of childhood. There were 7 kids in my family and we learned to work hard and entertain ourselves with whatever was handy.I mostly paint but also work with gourds and love to recycle wood items with folk art scenes!

Re: Welcome

Hello!

Thank you for inviting me to the team! What a great one to be a member of, too! I live in Greenville, SC, and the Appalachians have been a part of my life forever. I am a recent college graduate from College of Charleston with a degree in biology, but I've been working as a freelance metalsmith on an off for about 6 years now. I've been selling on etsy since 2008, but opened a new, re-vamped shop last June. Most of my work is inspired by nature, and I use a lot of organic influences.

Glad to be here!

Kristien

Re: Welcome

Glad to be here. Thanks. I have never been to Appalachia myself but my friend Rick Mckinney hiked the whole damn thing in a fit of depression. He wrote a book about it called "dead men hike no trails". good read.

Thanks again for the invite. Let me know what I can do. open a jar, sweep the floor, sing Ava Maria, etc....

Re: Welcome

So happy to be a part of the " Heart of Appalachia Street Team". Nature, mountains, Appalachia, kind-hearted people, porch swings, moss beneath your feet, wading through water, home cooked meals, small towns, picking wildflowers, windy roads...all sound like heaven to me.

I have lived in East Tennessee all my life and I love it here...can't imagine living anywhere else. My husband and I are retired and live in Greeneville, TN. I love to make quilts and love the history behind quilt making which is definitely deeply rooted in Appalachia. My Etsy shop "Traditions" http://www.etsy.com/shop/madeinUSAbyLinda
features various size quilts, placemats, and tablerunners. Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Re: Welcome

Hi everyone!

Thanks for letting me join the team! When I came across the team I was so excited!!

I was born in Charleston, SC and I've lived in many different states on the east coast in my short life. But the place I hold closest to me is Kentucky. I live in MA with my fiance and we go visit family all the time in PA...right now that's our second home! The jewelry I make shows a lot about who I am. Everything natural is the most beautiful thing to me. My fiance and I are always doing things out doors...walking the beach, going on hikes, sitting in our yard.

I wanted to share with you all something we did last night in our yard...I grew up camping with my dad and spending a lot of time fishing in my cousin's pond in KY....the smell of a camp fire is something that is so relaxing to me...so last night we made a fire pit in our "under construction" yard...I got out my old rocking chair (with no arms) and we sat out there for hours by the fire...then I made us some dinner over the fire...now let me just say that we live in a small town on the water where you need a permit to do just about anything...but that fire was well worth it!!!

So my point is no matter where you live...if your heart is still in the mountains or on the farm...you can always be right back at your favorite place with something a small as a fire in your yard.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and see more of your work!

Thank you!

Stephanie

Hi. I'm a new member! I live in the Roanoke Valley surrounded by the Blue Ridge mountains. I make soap and even have an Appalachian Trail soap for cleaning up after a day's hike! I love the mountains. I couldn't imagine not seeing them every morning when I wake up.

Re: Welcome

I wasam thinking ot starting an Appalachian team and researching names I found y'all. I have had such a good time I have forgotten what I can for.

At any rate, I cannot sit here and read my puter all day...must do some work..
and speaking of work, what is expected of team members here?

I'll be back later..in the mean time, if you'd like to check out my pitiful little shop, you're welcome. Also, I have Granny downsizing/left overs at: UniquesandOddities.etsy.com. (It's pitiful, too.) Mildred

Re: Welcome

This sounds like such a great team:)

I live in NE Ga. I love the mountains. Sometimes when Im on 85 I fantasize just heading north and getting off somewhere and heading to the mountains! I have really been wanting to go bad lately. I was in a craft show in NC with my other etsy shop: megscrochetjewels.etsy.com. I had to drive through quickly and it was just enough to wet my appetite...lol
