To those who've started blogs

I've resisted starting a blog for some time . . . its just one more thing I'd be committing to spend my time on. So my question to those who've started blogs in the past year: have you seen any evidence that it has increased sales?
Thanks for any input.

Nope not really and I find it very difficult to find time to work on it! Just my experience.....

No not really. I do get hits every day on it... but I can't say that it has increased sales as of yet.

@HumphreysHandmade: How long has your blog been up?

Re: To those who've started blogs

I've had my blog for about three years now. I started it on the advice seen so frequently that it would help sales. In my humble opinion, unless your blog content is very relevant and interesting to your ideal customer, it will not bring in sales. It will give you two places to try and drive traffic instead of one.

That being said, I love my blog. I blog about making jewelry which is my passion. The primary people interested in it are other people who make jewelry. I enjoy the camaraderie, exchange of ideas and participation with the jewelry making community.

Re: To those who've started blogs

I've not seen no sales as the result of our blog! But I enjoy my blog and it does send traffic this way on occassion just no sales. Truthfully 99% of my sales come from our facebook page!

But I'm glad I started my blog and it can take as much time as you want or as little time. I'm enjoying it =) Will see in the next month or two how sales go.....

Our blog has been going since May I believe so not been up along time. I've seen lots of blogs that get constant sales though so I don't know......=/

Re: To those who've started blogs

I've read the same advice as you and have been told for many years that I'm a good writer (it's genetic) so I finally bit the bullet and started a blog. Started. One entry, plus the bio etc...and I haven't been back to it because i'm too busy trying to do everything else involved in getting a start up shop going and, oh yeah, raise a family. I'm not complaining, but merely pointing out that unless you have the time and inclination to keep at it, it's just going to be one more thing you're "supposed" to be doing...
That said, I'm planning my second blog entry in conjunction with a major project I just completed (the results of which will be in my shop by the end of the week). I'm thinking that documenting special projects and doing a "look inside the studio" kind of piece may be the rasion d'être of my blog...
Best of luck to you!

Re: To those who've started blogs

In my opinion, and from what others have mentioned to me - a blog is something you do because you enjoy doing it. If you don't enjoy it, the blog will be just another task that you "have" to do - and it will show.

I started my blog in February. I really like blogging. I do get traffic to my Etsy shop because of my blog - I have a nice big shop button on the side - but it is not yet getting me sales.

My lack of sales is, more than likely, due to the fact that I have very little in my shop. That is about to change - and I have made sure to mention it on my blog. So I will see what happens.
