I was tuned into the Etsy Success Symposium for a lot of this morning and started thinking about April Bowles exercise for imagining your ideal customer. One thing led to another, and next thing I know I printed out a list of my customers' cities, states, and zip codes and started plugging the info into www.neighborhoodlink.com and wikipedia. Both sites had lots of census and demographic data. I made notes of median household income, median age, type of area -- affluent suburb, rural, urban -- racial diversity, and housing values. Definitely noticed some trends and similarities in where I'm shipping my orders. Just a few more pieces of info that, hopefully, help me to market and promote my shop more successfully.
Just wanted to share this exercise in case others find it helpful as well.
