Is this Correct Info does anyone know

Hi guys,

this information was posted in a team Im in... how correct is this does anyone know
------------------------------------------------
(Info from a programmer who tested for a week to come up with the data)

· The treasury is broken down in five categories: views, clicks, comments, shares, and report

· viewing is worth 1 point

· clicking is worth .75 points

· comments are worth 2 points

· If you are a curator and comment you lose .01 points for each comment. This may not seem like a lot but if you have the same score as another treasury, you are the one bumped down. We also don't know how it may affect your treasury after 5 hours.

· If you are a feature only one of your comment counts as 2 points, after that you get no points even if you log in as a different shop. You are wasting your time.

· If you are neither, each comment you make is worth 2 points.

· Etsy has embedded a silent program in all of our computers even when we are not logged in they still know who we are every time we come on to their site. This means that even if we are logged out we cannot come back and try to have our views and clicks register, you still have to wait for the cool off period.

· You only have to click on one item to have it register. There is a one minute time delay for it to show up.

· There is a cool off period in the treasury, every 30 minutes you can go in and have your view register.

· This is the how it works for the first 5 hours of the creation of the treasury.

· The creation of the treasury includes the time it took to make the treasury.

· The first 5 hours is a grace period, you can only keep going up.

· You start out with 2,000 points.

· This point system is how they rank your hotness

· The top treasury on page 1 is around 5,000-6,000 points; the treasury on the top of page 2 is around 2,500-3,000 points.

· After 5 hours the math changes

· this change adds an outside pressure that we cannot see

· It seems that if your activity goes up from the last minute it is a positive pressure

· If your activity goes down it is a negative pressure

· If it stays the same it is a smaller negative pressure

· The amount of difference the pressure makes correlates with how big the difference is from the last minutes activities

· The hotter you are the bigger the pressure is between the differences this is true negative or positive.

· We will probably never know what the math is to this.

-----
A few things to note:

Double posting as a featured artist does nothing. It's pointless so don't waste your time.

Using a second account to post also does nothing.

Posting on your own treasury will take away your points and will not get you on the FP.

ONE click per person counts. The others do not.

Goodness that's mostly over my head, though I can tell you they used to say in the old articles I read not to put yourself in the treasury. :(

Wow that kind of blows it for those that are not already popular. How fair is this to those that are new and don't have a lot of followers yet? And how is this helping us communicate with our fellow artists? Adam, since you seem to be an Etsy expert, wanna explain this or set us straight on this one? Or someone??

Re: Is this Correct Info does anyone know

I can guarantee you one thing, that the algorithm for how the treasury works will absolutely NOT be posted in the Etsy forums for everyone to see.

You can take that to the bank.

Etsy admin does not want their super secret algorithms out to the public, and as sure as the sun rises and sets, they will not be. Besides that, they are always tweeking and changing them to keep the mix fresh and working well.

So, my take on this is, it is someone guessing at how the algorithm works. But this is only a guess, and honestly - if it were anything close to the truth, Etsy would probably change it.

So, in all honesty, I wouldn't give much credence.

Just my 2 cents.

Sandie

Re: Is this Correct Info does anyone know

Not sure how it works but I don't think this could be correct as there are some treasuries with hundreds of views that don't go anywhere and others with very few views that seem to come out on top. It probably has a lot to do with tagging and what is apparently trending or not but who knows. I would though be interested to know how they really do it.

Re: Is this Correct Info does anyone know

Apparently the info is from a programmer who tested for a week to come up with the data.

But Etsy can probably override that formula at anytime to priorise listings or change the formula to prioritise differently.

Of course its all rumour, and of course Etsy would never confirm their secret formula lol

Re: Is this Correct Info does anyone know

i think that is how the math goes. Wich means mathematically that is how you go on top.

But probably the etsy admin can also personnally choose a treasury they like and put it front page!

Re: Is this Correct Info does anyone know

very interesting.
i think that anyway the basis to have a good succesfull treasury are:
-good picture
-good team work: if everyone in the team clicks on the reasury it is gonna win for shure
-don't include your own shop
-follow the etysy merchandising report for the month.

then leave the mats to the matematicians.
they for shure will be changing them some time to time!
so no tricks, just team game, and good creative work.

here is the merchandising page of feb.
it is very very important to follow these indications in our shops and in the treasury.
also there is the link to many posts about photography and how to have a better shop.
i just discover it and i'm gonna read them all.

Re: Is this Correct Info does anyone know

It's too complicated to figure out. Just make the treasury and let Etsy figure it out. ;-)

I have a new shop: chelsearainbow.etsy.com
I have always loved jewelry and I love the relationship that women have with their jewelry. It makes us feel beautiful, feminine, and powerful. It affects us in many ways, and even if a piece does not cost thousands of dollars, it is still precious to us.
Stop by and see my new work: chelsearainbow.etsy.com

Re: Is this Correct Info does anyone know

wow, this is interesting. I wondered about people who sponsor BNR's and create treasuries all the time. I usually don't have the time to create but was wondering if there was a magic formula.

Re: Is this Correct Info does anyone know

I've seen this before too and it was made clear that it was just one programmers interpretation of how the algorithm works. I would think that it's fairly difficult to test because there as so many variables and the treasuries are so fluid.

Fun to think about though! Just keep making treasuries and they will come :)

Agree with TRACCE, follow marking tips, trending tags and promote your treasury everywhere that seems to be what helps
