How do you attract an International market?

I've been focused mainly on domestic sales, but am curious - how does one attract potential international customers?

Any tips? Advice? Ideas?

Thanks!

Try to spread out when you renew your items to all different times of the day (and sometimes night, if you can). That way, your items will be visible at the top of searches when people in Australia, for example, are shopping here. :) I do nothing more than that and I've gotten quite a few International orders.

Although I have only just opened on Etsy I have sold elsewhere internationally and the measuring system can be an issue, make sure you put metric measurements as appropriate, my Mum would know feet and inches really well but I am quite clueless and need an online converter open ;)

Oh, thank Google for those easy conversion tables!!! Since I sell skincare prods, and live in Canada, it's a constant battle between ounces and litres...

Re: How do you attract an International market?

Good ideas everyone! Thank you. I'm relatively new to etsy - and am still learning the ropes. I'll renew items at different times and see what happens.

Do you think shipping is an issue? I don't want to over charge for shipping, but know that it costs more to ship overseas. Thoughts?

Thank you! xoxo

I honestly dont think that postage is a huge issue, as long as you are realistic with the postage buyers know they have to pay a little more if it comes from overseas but they are so in love with the item at that point they dont mind! :)

Re: How do you attract an International market?

Being in Canada, most of my orders are international. I think around 50% are to the USA, about 45 % overseas and 5% Canada.

I don't know how much it helps but I have that I 'ship worldwide' by my shop name in the shop title and in my announcement. Making sure international shipping is listed I think also helps since a buyer doesn't have to contact me to ask prices.

I know some things are difficult to price shipping as it varies too much by location. In my other vintage shop some of the items are bulky or heavy and I can't list international shipping prices and I think it hurts my sales.

I know for me it is really worth it to make sure my shop is international friendly :)

Re: How do you attract an International market?

Thank you!

I am as fair as possible with my shipping fees (free shipping to US for any ACEO!) because it's what I like to see as a buyer. So, your advice helps with the international portion. Thank you so much!!

Re: How do you attract an International market?

offer worldwide shipping. International buyers get frustrated by U.S. sellers who don't do that.

I have always loved jewelry and I love the relationship that women have with their jewelry. It makes us feel beautiful, feminine, and powerful. It affects us in many ways, and even if a piece does not cost thousands of dollars, it is still precious to us.
