How To Promote An Etsy Shop ...

I have been on Etsy for a while and I just don't seem to get very many sales on here like I do on my personal web site. I have checked other competitors who make the same types of products I do and they have a lot of sales. Therefore, I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong on Etsy? Any constructive criticism or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would try working on some better pictures, when you look at some of your thumbnails the item isn't always centered, some of the pictures are a little dark or have a light glare reflecting off the item, or the item is cut off. I would also have a look at what times and how many items your competition is relisting.

Im new to Etsy but i'll take a look at your pics like the first poster suggested. I dont have any sales either but I'm new. I need constructive criticism too ! It really does help so off I go to give my 2 cents....

ok it didnt take me long at all. First let me say that this is ironic since i'm an animal lover/rights activist so how funny....

the #1 thing that hit me- was that for me, at least, I think the product shows too close. If it were me, i would make the background completely plain or white, not wood floors or doors. nothing else competing for the attention of the dog bowls. And go back a bit from the bowls. I would make your avatar pic one that shows the bowl straight on, you lying down, maybe like 5-10 feet away - level on the ground in other words, with a totally plain background, not you shooting the top of the bowl. then the other 4 photos could show all the top detail like you have showing now. My sister is a professional photographer so she is always giving me tips!

I do alot of pen and ink on wood. Photography is quite an issue for me. It is hard to get good shots. It is really great help to hear from others.
I appreciate the great tips. Maybe it will help !

I won't even begin to tell you how many times I've changed my photos...but it's always been worth it.

On first glance I would reccamend using all 5 photo slots, take them from different angles, close ups and ensure you have at least one photo of the "complete" item.

Also, a biggie, is to have a white or or light colored background. Basically what you want is when some one looks at your photos you want to ensure all they see is your product...not checking out your flooring or wall color. And with a white background you will be more likely to be added to treasuries this way. (Just get some white poster board or a sheet if the poster board is not big enough.)
