Getting feedback and maintaining connection after sale

hi all... just wondering how you deal with getting feedback from your customers. Do you write and ask for it if you havent heard back from customers after the sale?

also, when someone leaves you a great feedback, do you send a note of thanks just to keep in touch? would love to know everyone's thoughts !

I notice a lot of my customers don't leave feedback right away, or read their convos. I get some feedback up to 2 months later.

I think the frequent Etsy buyer may indeed leave it right away. The new Etsy buyer that found your item and opened an account to get it, or those who sign on only once in awhile won't leave it until the next time they sign on .

It would be nice to follow up with them to offer a coupon code and a note "hope you were satisifed with your item, when you can please leave feedback and here's a 5% coupon code if you come back and shop with me again."

I actually just had some luck with feedback! First I have to credit AlphaDogPhoto for being the clever mind behind this message.

"You recently purchased an item from AlphaDogPhoto and have not given feedback. If there was a problem with your order, please contact us right away. Otherwise, we look forward to your positive feedback the next time you sign on to Etsy."

I used the same idea different words and got some to give feedback, but not all.
After they did leave feedback I made sure to thank them for their purchase and offer a 15% discount.

Does anyone know what the Etsy averages are as far as feedback per sale? I have 47 sales and 19 feedback. Seems low to me.

I had the same problem, so now I send a note along with the shipment, saying something like: ... I hope you are very happy etc etc and would love to read your feedback in my shop! ;o)

Not everyone knows about the feedback tool. I have noticed a lot of sales coming from people who just signed up for their etsy account that day. They might not ever revisit the site or not know about feedback.

I know that when I first signed up for etsy and made a purchase under a personal account years ago that I had no idea about feedback and rarely visited the site after I did make that purchase.

When I have a customer, I send them an email saying things like- Thanks for your purchase, I hope you enjoy the Pyrex dish! (or whatever the sold item is). And I say, if you'd like- I'll email you or keep you in mind when I get more Pyrex listed on the shop.

A lot of customers hit me up on that- I have a couple of previous customers who would like me to keep them updated on cameras and photography related things...

When I ship out peoples items, I write a little note saying thank you and telling them I appreciate their purchase and to check back often that I'll be posting more items that may be of interest to them in the following weeks.

Love these ideas! I have noticed with this shop and my other more established shop that only about half of people leave feedback. Seems that way with most shops. I will have to start adding something to my package enclosrues about feedback...great idea!

I have asked once for feedback. The person has quite a busy shop and she did eventually leave me nice feedback. When I've been happy with feedback, conversations and product I like to give an extra thank you. In fact, just used the shop I bought a organza flower from in first spot in my latest Treasury...they are that super-nice. Making their day also makes mine.

If a person orders more than one item, say three, on one order, your stats show it as only one order but 3 items sold. That's why there will always be more items sold than positive feedback.
Great idea for offering a discount code for someone leaving a positive feed back or to give incentive to someone who hasn't left feedback.

I've actually had pretty good success with feedback, but I'm not sure why. As a buyer I might be a little turned off by someone "bugging" me about leaving feedback, but as a seller I can understand wanting it. Guess it's all about how you say it. :)

Not everyone leaves feedback. They might not come back to their account after buying or they might just not think about it. I usually ask people to leave feedback on my business card and then hope that they think about it.
