Am I lost without Facebook?

Hi everyone!
Just wondering if I am at a complete disadvantage without a Facebook account. I don't have one (or any of the other social networking accounts) and don't have any plans to open one.

Is there any possible way to use or benefit from these sites without having my own accounts? Please help!!! Any ideas would be sooo appreciated!

Thanks and I hope everyone has a fantastic Monday!
Kathy

Re: Am I lost without Facebook?

For me personally, Facebook has so enhanced the quality of my life in real-life, day-to-day, specific ways I can hardly imagine life without it. I recognize that it's not everyone's experience, but for me, it has allowed me to stay in touch easily with my gigantic sprawling family, dear dear friends who were once all in the same area but now spread all over the country, and to form stronger bonds with more recent friends.

Facebook has also made it much easier to tap into and get involved with my local craft scene and make social connections with local artists whom I might not have otherwise met at all. And I'm not even talking about a business page...I just opened one yesterday.

So yeah, I'm a big fan of facebook. : )

Re: Am I lost without Facebook?

Before I started shuffling around the country I flat-out refused to join social networking sites. But, as I met more people I met and wanted to keep in contact with, I realised it was going to be a necessary evil in my life & now I can't live without it. But I TOTALLY understand not wanting a personal profile.

What you might want to consider, though, is that your reluctance the join facebook, knowing good and well that everyone and their mothers on it, could be costing you exposure. There's no reason you can't open a personal profile under a false name JUST so you can have a business page to offer to the members of facebook. On the business page, you'll be able to put up picture albums of your work, send pictures and links to whoever your heart desires, and promote your Etsy shop- which, by the way can be attached directly to your facebook business page :)

Don't cheat yourself. Treat yourself!!! Feel free to take a peek at my business page. Notice my real nem doesn't come up unless I want it to because the page isn't about me- it's about promoting my product. Good luck!!!

Re: Am I lost without Facebook?

cookiedough - I've been wondering the same thing. The only thing I have besides the Etsy shop is a blog. No facebook, no twitter. So...I'm asking the same question as you! Should I join facebook and twitter? Because to me, it just seems like it's a lot of extra time to put in. ?????????

Re: Am I lost without Facebook?

I have both a personal face book and a fan page for my etsy shop however I hardly use either. But I do feel that outlets like facebook are great for marketing there just not right for everyone.
