Melbourne Markets

Hello all!

Im fairly new to Melbs and putting my feelers out there to see if any team members could please recommend some worthwhile markets to apply for for the coming year.

Would really appreciate it.
Ive heard the Maribyrnong makers market is a goody, along with the Picadilly market in Geelong. Have any of you done these two and do you think the turn out is good?

Any other tips appreciated!

Thanks heaps!

Re: Melbourne Markets

Hi
I'm in a similar position with just starting to look at markets to attend.
Some of the ones I've found so far are - Rose Street Artists market, The Sisters market, Little Creatures market in Geelong, and The Design Exchange in Ballarat.
I'm going to The Sisters Market this weekend to take a look.
I'd also love to know if anyone has done any of these markets and what you thought of them. Or if you have any other suggestions. Thanks

Re: Melbourne Markets

Hi all,
Sorry very late with the reply here - There are so many markets in and around Melbourne now. Some that I highly recommend looking into are...

* The Shirt and Skirt Market at the Abbotsford Convent is wonderful - it's on the 3rd Sunday of every month.

* The Finders Keepers Market at the Royal Exhibition Building is one of our faves - two market dates a year - the next one is in Oct.

* The Big Design Market - a fabulously crazy 3 days in the first weekend of Dec

* Rose St Artists Market - Saturdays for us were better than Sundays... but if you can do both then I'd definitely recommend it especially in the lead up to Christmas.

We had a stall at The Design Exchange in Ballarat last September and whilst it was good, it definitely wasn't the busiest of markets.

Best of luck with the Market hunt and also with Etsy sales - here's to many brilliant market weekends now that Spring has Sprung! :)

Re: Melbourne Markets

Hi Jenna.

LOVE your work. We met through Sally at Ike & Fly Collective in Northcote. :)

I have found Maribyrnong Makers Market to be fantastic. The shoppers out there really appreciate quality handmade work and are happy to pay for it. And the market itself is very well organised by super lovely people.

I did loads of different markets in 2015 and Maribyrnong is the only community market I aim to participate in every time it's on. It's that good for me. :)

Other markets that have worked for me are Finders Keepers (yes it's expensive but soooo many people) and the Tasmanian Craft Fair in Deloraine. Can't recommend it enough. It's massive (15+ venues) and was a huge success for me.

Hope this helps.

Re: Melbourne Markets

Hi guys! I'm also in the same boat, would love to get amongst the Melbourne markets. I've googled so many of them, and a lot of suburbs have their own makers markets, which are quite cheap to purchase a stall and accessible. The handmade show, abbotsford convent market, Ivanhoe makers market to name a few. I've never done one, and don't have any photos of my stall to send on the application yet! One day...:)

Re: Melbourne Markets

Hi Aleesha.

I love hearing about peeps making their way into the makers market scene. We've all been there. :)

I would encourage you to pick a market and go for it. Nothing gets things started quicker than getting your feet wet and getting some experience. You'll quickly learn which markets are right for you.

Also I know what it's like to need a stall setup photo and not have one. I actually setup my stall at home before applying for my first market. It got me a photo for my market application plus it was a great way to play around with how I wanted to setup my stall and take some of the anxiety and challenge out of my first market day. :)

All the best.

PS. Love "Ferdinand the Giraffe". Ca-Yute!
