Prices too high???

I am beginning to wonder if my prices are too high. I have some people telling me that I need to ask more but I look at other little dresses on Etsy and most are less. However, that being said, let me explain my listings.
I make girls pillowcase dresses.
The ones made from fabric, not actual pillowcases, are $40. The seams are all serged for a professional finish and they are all pre-washed and pressed,
Then I have white ones that are made from brand new pillowcases. I have hand embroidered each of these myself. Each is lined, serged, pre-washed and pressed.
I am asking $60 for each of these because of all the hours is takes to do the embroidery and because they are lined.
Lastly, I offer dresses made from vintage embroidered pillowcases. I also line, serge, pre-wash and press these. I choose only vintage pillowcases that are in excellent shape with no spots, tears, holes, etc. Since I don't have to spend hours doing the embroidery and they are vintage, I ask an in between price of $50.

Please share what you think. I can take it. Here is a link to my etsy:

I really appreciate all comments. Thanks, Cathy

Re: Prices too high???

Hi Cathy,

I think your dresses are beautiful! I understand that a lot of work goes into them, but I think that a lot of people may hesitate to spend $50 or $60 on a dress that their daughter will only be able to wear for a year or two at most.

As a shop owner, you've got to make money and you can't sell yourself short, but you also have to take into consideration what people are willing to pay for certain items.

Good luck!

Re: Prices too high???

Thank you DaisyDesignShop. There is something I did forget to mention. These dresses are extremely versatile. Once the length of the dress is outgrown these dresses can be worn with leggings or jeans as a top. In the winter they can be worn with leggings and a turtle neck or long sleeve t-shirt and in warmer weather worn as a sundress/top. They can be worn for several years.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Re: Prices too high???

I have the opposite, some said mine are too low while others said it's a good price.

You may want to mention that information in some way underneath your banner and wherever people can see it. It would be a good selling point regardless of how much they are. People typically see "dress" and think of using it just as that.

Re: Prices too high???

I agree with DreamerDesigns. Stressing their versatility and the length of time they can be worn is an excellent point and they are beautiful! I also think that people come to Etsy looking for something unique (like your dresses) and they are willing to pay for that uniqueness and quality.
I would give it a little time, sometimes people have to look at something a couple of times before they commit.

HushabyeMtnBoutique -

Try looking around, if you have not already, to see what other people are pricing their items at that are similar to yours - both in terms of complexity and design. This will help give you a better idea of how high or low you can go.
