Use of CA glue as finish

I just recently started making pens and for the life of me I can't seem to get the finish that everyone else seems to get. I have read all the post and information that I can find and nothing seems to work out for me like the pictures I see.
I also started using CA glue and I cant get that shinny finish with it either. So what could I be doing wrong? Does it need to dry before trying to do the finish or any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tom

You will see other CA videos on the right side of this Youtube video.

I don't use CA for a finish, I glue everything to the Mandrel, Bushing (i tried waxing, didn't help) blank and my hand. HaHa

I use General Finishes Wood Turners Finish, it's great, 5-6 thin coats, do not use friction, dies in 10 mins. It's a bit Amber.

And on a Turning that I don't want to add any amber, I use Minwax wipe on poly.
With both I buff, Tripoli , White Diamond, last clean wheel.

Re: Use of CA glue as finish

Are you a member of the International Association of Penturners (IAP)? It's a penmaking forum with gobs and gobs of great info, a wonderful library, and many helpful, experienced people.

Be warned, though, that if you ask about CA finishes there you'll get 30 different answers from 20 different people. Everyone has their own way, and the way that works for A doesn't work for B. But the answers will give you ideas of things to try as you develop a system that works for you.

I also struggled with CA for a while. A YouTube video helped greatly. Now I do all my work with CA with rare exception. I know it's overkill, but I let my newly-applied CA dry overnight before micro-meshing. I also give each coat of CA a full five minutes to dry before applying the next coat. It's overkill and a time-consuming PITA, but I'm happy with my finish and that's what matters.

Re: Use of CA glue as finish

Here's a guide I wrote regarding CA finishes. It took me awhile to learn too.
