Here is a small list of some of the best places to advertise your items for sale.
1.) devinatart.com - This is a "Art" sharing website. It is free to join and you can easily upload a photo of your creations with a link to your Etsy. Please note, that this website is only for handmade items. No vintage or Commercial supplies.
2.) wanelo.com - A nice site, similar to pinterest, but only for sharing unique products. You can list anything you want. Free to join.
3.) facebook.com - Ahh facebook, all I can say if you don't have a facebook for your shop yet, Make one!
4.) Twitter - I personally myself do not use twitter, but I hear it works.
5.) Pinterest.com - Pretty nice but not a huge customer view.
6.) Instagram - This is a iPhone/iPod App. You can upload photos of your products with a link to your shop. Make for sharing photos, but works for advertising to!
7.) Etsy Treasuries - Make as many as you can, join treasury teams and try to get included.
Now like I said, this is just a small list. There are many other sites out there you can advertise on.
Also, as for etsy search ads & display case i hear that they are not worth the money and do not work.
