Question about a custom order

I had a lady contact me and wanted me to make 12 of my patchwork dresses for her. I gave her a really good deal, I'm not making a ton. I told her I would need half of the payment before I started, that was a week ago and I haven't received payment or heard from her. She wants the dresses by the 15 th of March. I'm just wondering how long I should give her to make a payment before I just say forget it. I've tried contacting her quite a few times and haven't heard anything. Just wondering what you guys thought.

Re: Question about a custom order

I would just tell her that you can not start until you receive payment and once you start tell her how long it will take you from that point to complete the dresses. If you don't here anything, I wouldn't do anything until that happens.
Good luck!

Re: Question about a custom order

I told her that I won't start til I receive payment, so I haven't did anything yet. I gave a deadline of tomorrow morning and if I don't hear from her then I can't do it.

Sounds like you have done everything you can do on your end! Diss appointing though I am sure.

Re: Question about a custom order

I ended getting a big order from a returning customer that I'm making more money on, so I told her I'm not able to make them for her. So really in the end I ended up with a better deal!

Re: Question about a custom order

You need 100% of the payment up front. 50% is only going to cover your supplies and not your labor or any profit. If you are making to size, you may not be able to sell them. that is 100% up front.

If you give someone a quote, and you don't hear back from them within a couple of days. send them a second convo, and after that, they are done. don't contact them, they are not serious. And NEVER start an order without payment. Don't start one on a wish and a prayer!

Re: Question about a custom order

Great advice from Beverly!

I've received several convos for custom orders and have gone back and forth and when it came time for them to purchase the listing, I don't hear from them.

I always ask for full payment up front, even with small wholesale orders.

Heather: Glad it worked out for you in the end! =D
