considering my passion for a business

Hello everyone!

I'm new here...and am in the process of doing some "research" for possibly starting an easy store. I was hoping to get some feedback on your experience with selling your hand lettering/typography/digital prints on etsy. Is it more of a hobby or full-time gig? How do you decide on your pricing? And on average, how many sales do you have per month?

Thanks!
Erica

Re: considering my passion for a business

I just started selling digital print/pieces here on Etsy, and though I haven't made a sale yet I'm optimistic. Etsy is quite saturated, so its easy to get discouraged right off the bat if you don't see results. I had another shop (its currently in vacation mode) where I sold jewelry, and was actually able to sale a few of my pieces, even though the jewelry market is heavily saturated on here. I'm a SAHM, so I'm hoping to make it a career. At the end of the day, I enjoy it, so whether I make money or not I'll most likely continue to do it.

I decide on my pricing by comparing my items to others in my same market. I also consider the time and labor I put into my items, and price them that way as well. When it comes to pricing, you also have to look at quality. I make sure my items are just as good at a minimum, to those within my market.
