how many cals a day are good for weight loss?

I'm wondering how many cals going in a day is good for losing weight in a balanced manner. i was thinking somewhere between 1400 - 1500 would be about right. i'd love some other opinions

^ that website has a calorie calculator where you type in your weight, height, age, and goal (<1-2 lbs per week) and it will tell you how many cals to aim for in order to lose & maintain that weight. There is also a calorie tracker so you can keep track of everything you eat every day, & it adds up the cals for you. You can also log your exercise.

If you have an ipod touch or iphone there is an app for this website. It's helped keep me on track immensely!

i just found a great app on my iphone and to lose .5 a week my range should be around 1600. so for a lb, 1500 would be about right

i work with a guy who has a degree in nutrition and he gave me some great guidelines. he told me 1000 cals a day, 11grams of fat a day and around 85 grams of protein a day. in the past three weeks I've gone from 151 to 147. I'm vegetarian and i was eating WAYYYY too much fat (I've simply cut out peanut butter and avocadoes for awhile) and by now I don't even crave them anymore! I just need the weather to start getting warmer so I can exercise!!

If you are looking to lose or maintain weight and are wanting to find out what your calorie intake should be, I highly suggest seeking out a registered dietitian in your area. They are highly trained in helping you meet your individual health and weight goals.

I agree with moranutrition. 1000 calories is SO low! You will definitely want to work with a Registered Dietitian to help you find a great balanced plan. Life is more than just a number on the scale. You want to make sure that you are able to get in all of the vitamins, minerals and nutrients that your body needs.
