SILENT ETSY PROTEST

It's about a silent protest about an etsy protest wich will happen on May 10th, when sellers on etsy will silence their stores for 24 hours.
It's an important message for us....
Etsy was born as a site to support the stores that sells "handmade" and must remain so.
And 'originated as an alternative to clones, to all products alike, making people aware about handcraft items.

I didn't know about this. Is anyone here going to close shop that day?

If people are selling factory stuff and trying to pass it off as their own they can be reported and I would think the designer who designed for the factory would want to take legal action. If anyone sells vintage here I do not mean to offend but in a way it seems etsy should be handmade things only but I have no problem with vinatage here in fact now I regret all the things we trashed in PA for our move. I saw the same kitchen canisters my Mom used to own on sale here. In fact if I could get some of the things I have in storage I could open a vintage shop til they sold.But I have no room for more stuff.

Just curious who is closing that day? I have no plans to but will closing my shop a day make etsy get rid of these people?. Does etsy even have the time to find them all? If etsy has to hire people to find them it will just put my listing fees up. Even if etsy gets rid of these people will I get more sales? I doubt it! New people open shops everyday and it is just plain hard for people to find us so I don't think the fakes are stopping us. The fact is we have more people selling than buying or we would not have to keep buying each others thing is Bnrs and BNS. Just my thought on the matter.The top sellers promote somewhere outside of etsy in my opinion and I would love to know their secret.

first i heard of it...
I agree etsy shouldnt become ebay where cheap factory produced rubbish is being sold as unique and handmade.

however i am unsure how this protest will help.

I done it!

Roughly 3000 stores are set to participate. I'm guessing by may 10th, it will be 5-10K.

I agree with freedom of speech. And i encourage people to provide information, thoughts, and their feelings on things in threads in the team discussion.

I will not close a discussion down unless it is intentionally created to cause hurt or unpleasantness to another team member.

This thread is fine and people then are Able to make their own decisions.

One of the suggestions I've heard regarding this protest is to change your avi to a picture of hands and add HANDMADE. I've done this.

With the small amount of sales that I have, I do not believe that closing my shop would hurt anyone but me. :-)

That is really clever sassy.
Im really not sure that the business owners fof this platform will change anything, they make money from people selling stuff afterall regardless of what is being sold, but i do believe this should stay a handmade not a mass produced seller market.
