I recently attended my first Anime Convention and am interested in selling at an Artist's Table at my next one. Do any of you do this and if so I'd love to hear your stories, warnings, tips, and tricks!
I have never attended an Anime convention but I cant see how selling there could be a bad thing :)In my opinion It might be a good way to get your name and shop out there.
Yeah, building a decent stock is the biggest hurdle for me. I want to push my new line of Geek Sports tees but t-shirts are a gamble because you have to drop funds down to get x amount of shirts in x amount of sizes. You never know which size of which shirt is going to sell out or which will not sell at all.
I'm planning to do so this summer at a geeky con at the north of spain. i will just sell at my place instead of paying the org for a stand. i've seen people do the same, having a small stock and getting custom orders. We'll see :p
If you are planning on selling at a con, be sure to check in with the dealer room to see if what you are selling won't be considered 'bootleg' or if they have problems with copyright (since the design might not be yours)
I've been gophering at cons for 7 years now and recently started selling my crafts at cons (I am with an artist group so I can still keep gophering) and I like it thus far. But you have to be sure that the tablecosts and such aren't too high for you on the first try. Which is why I joined the artist group. See if they have a similar thing for you and then if you have the hang of it, go solo ^^
