I'm trying to decide if I want to spend the time and energy on a blog. I know that they can be helpful for establishing a presence outside of Etsy, but I don't think I could keep up on regular content and work on new items for the shop. I'm a SAHM with a nine month old, so I have limited time to create and work on the shop.

Do you blog to increase your business or just to have fun? Have you found that your blog helps increase traffic to your shop?

Hi Jen,Great question! I am new to Etsy started in feb I started My blog to promote my shop and for fun and to tell you the truth it hasn't done me many favors but I think once you get your name out there a blog would be very beneficial.

Do you plan to just use your blog to showcase new items in your shop, or do you have other post ideas?

I have been thinking about making some "how to" videos for cross stitching since it lines up with my products and originally planned to add the videos to my blog. Since I don't think I could keep up with new blog material and I don't want to have a blog that looks abandoned, I am considering adding the videos to my Facebook fan page instead.

Jen, I use my blog to promote my items in my shop but I also like to blog about the silly things my pets do.I just started my blog a few weeks ago and it needs a lot of work!!!! but I think making how to videos is a great idea people who are interested in cross stitching will see it and then see your work I think its a smart way to promote your skills and items.

I started mine just to try and document my creative processes, it's cool if someone wants to check it out, but I kind of did it for me first and foremost promoting my shop comes second....okay, not embarrassing my hubby comes second, promoting my shop comes third! I've tried adding coupon codes as a form of promotion, but it hasn't been fruitful, oh well!
